Default Is this a bot fly?

    Hi there

One of my wilds (mature female) has developed some kind of growth under her chin. It appears to be progressively enlarging (was a little bigger today than yesterday). There are no other such growths on her that I can see.

Any idea what this is? A bot fly? Any way to help her out?

Yup, you can see the breathing hole. A single or a few bots should not pose any problem, just let it be. I have never seen one in that location but she looks healthy so I think she will be fine.

Looks like it's about ready to drop out. When it does they heal up really fast.

    I hate those things!

Nice close ups by the way!

    Ok, thank you both.

Hope it resolves soon and doesn't cause her too much pain.

Let us know if it drops out in the next week or so. If so, she should show improvement very quickly.

She should be back to her normal good looking squirrelly self in just a few days!

Thanks for keeping us posted on her progress Benny. I hope she heals up fast.

Some of those nice close ups after the warble dropped out would be nice!

Ok, I'll see if I can't arrange another photo shoot with Mama Squirrel.

In the meantime, here's another close up from the original session (with bot fly attached).

Sorry it's so huge, I couldn't figure out how to make it more reasonably sized.

Currently she has a a little leftover wound in the spot under her chin.
