Hi Beez, welcome to The Squirrel Board

I wasn’t able to access your other thread so I will answer here.

Yes, your friend has a big problem. Could you give us more history. How old is the squirrel? How long has he been free? It’s difficult to say which came first, the cheek swelling/abscess or the overgrown teeth. Misaligned teeth (malocclusion) for a squirrel can be deadly because the teeth never stop growing. If they can’t properly file the teeth down they will overgrow and eventually puncture the palate, the face or the cheeks. It also makes eating difficult or impossible for them.

If you have the option of a rehabber they might help you. A rehab center might or might not help. It’s hard to say. Sometimes they euthanize ones that they feel won’t be releasable. I would guess that you probably don’t have a vet that would help.

    Can you trim teeth?
