I could not figure out why my little man seemed so “off balance” so I did some google last night and found you. Immediately checked my formula and went through so many emotions. I gave him dose of tums- I’m not sure how your figures go for dosing- he vomited. ?? Help
I see you have 2 threads, it would be best to keep everything in one. Maybe an admin can combine the two.
Poor little guy. You definitely need to rehydrate with pedialyte or homemade pedialyte solution
1 quart of warm water
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoon sugar
mix well and keep unused in the refrigerator and toss after 24 hours

MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CALCIUM DOESN'T HAVE ADDED VITAMIN D

The instructions are the same, but the total calcium intake is less, because of the baby's size.
How much does the baby weigh? I have never dosed a baby this young.
Make sure that your calcium doesn't have added vitamin D.

Here is the MBD protocol from Henry's Healthy Pets
https://www.henryspets.com/emergency-treatment-for-mbd/
It has directions for squirrels under the age of 12 weeks listed.
Hydrate him drop by drop.
What formula are you feeding?
Can you post a picture, and weigh him?
Did you read over the MBD protocol and read the part how to dose for 12 weeks and under?

Ok, glad you changed the formula.
To ensure your baby gets the entire dose of calcium you shouldn't mix with the formula.
Crush the tums, add water and give by syringe.
The Henry's mbd protocol also shows how to read the calcium labels on the tums container (tums come in different strengths).
I don't know what DE with calcium is.
Poor little guy, he looks dehydrated to me. You need to make sure he's well hydrated before feeding formula.
Honestly I have fed baby possums, kittens, puppies, horses and calf’s- little man is my first squirrel- I have always added DE to water, it does have supplement calcium and has health benifits for worms parasites ext.. I did not know if this is good specifically for squirrels or squirrels with the MBD... learning and I do NOT want to fail this little man.
I honestly don't know about the DE. I've used it on kitties and I sprinkled the foodgrade DE around my bird feeders before to get rid of ants.

I sent a message with this thread to the owner of Henry's and this is the reply.

THANK YOU!!! I am doing all above. Unfortunately getting anything in him is very challenging- I am leaving him with a friend for a week starting 25th. I hate doing it but I have a neurologist appointment in portland Oregon and I’m afraid to sneak him on the plane to take him with me. I really need him well by then
Everyone is still learning how supplementing babies this young with calcium works.
I got another message I want to share with you.
I want to be sure to pass on everything correctly.
Would you like us to help you find a rehabber in your area?

Thank you! He hasn’t had issues with temperature- until today. It’s just amazing how quickly he went from being good to not good. No vomiting since last night. Right now because getting liquid in is challenging I am focusing between the calcium and pedialite. This is heart breaking! I am assuming the “dragging back legs and balance is a sure sign of MBD we are seeing right now? My guy has not shown signs of diarrhea or bloating yet.
How long have you been giving him Pedialyte?
It should be used no more than 24 hours, then
offer him water with a touch of honey for taste.
How long have you had this little one?

This is very concerning.
Your little one needs help and
I would hate to see any progress that
has been made, negated by someone that
doesn't know squirrels and how to properly feed.
(unless this someone does have a lot of squirrel experience)
They can aspirate so easily.
I hope I don't sound harsh, I'm a worrier.
Would you like us to try to find someone
with lots of experience to help you if we can?
What town do you live in?
