    Exclamation Joann. Animal rescue

Hi, Joann here, I have rescued 5 baby red fox squirrels. Mom gotten by owl. They are approx 5 was old. The smallest female has pneumonia - clicking sounds while breathing. Sunday and no access to antibiotics till tomorrow. I have 375 mg amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulante potassium tablets on hand. Are these ok to use? If so how, how much, how often and care for her going forward. Thanks

    Hi Joann -

In order to properly dose the antibiotics we need to know the weight of the baby (in grams). If you're able to provide this info someone here can dose the medication (you have a good one) for you.

I approximate about 3 grams, she’s not clicking anymore while breathing, would like to do precautionary measures, also should I give anything preventative to the other 4 who are all doing very well? Thank you

Yes, we will need a weight since 3 grams seems much to light. Red squirrels are small and fox squirrels are very large. Can you post a picture?

We will dose this for you when you get the scale.
Go to this link. It's 6 short concise pages long with the
next button at the top right corner.
    https://www.henryspets.com/1-caring-...baby-squirrel/
I think you may mean you approximate the weight at 3 ounces.
3 grams is less than a nickle weighs.
Remember we need an exact weight in grams.
IF you can't get a scale, please post a picture next to something
like a soda can for size comparison. We don't like to do it, but
we can guesstimate the weight if we have to in order to save a life.

What size syringe are you using?
    What formula are you feeding?

No need to do preventative dosing for the other little ones.

We will keep checking periodically for the correct weight.

Edit: Sorry I didn't see Spanky's post until now.
