    Exclamation Diarrhea

We recently acquired a male Eastern Gray who seems to be around 8 weeks old. We have tried some rodent blocks as well as the vegetables and fruits. He goes nuts for avocados , but we know he needs a variety of food and the blocks. Last night he started rubbing his butt on the bed; like dogs do when they have worms. We checked him and don’t see anything. We asked some friends who said he may be marking his area. Well today we noticed he had diarrhea all over his cage. Did he maybe eat too much avocado? He seems to act like he is starving and goes crazy for food. We have had him for a week now and he has been fine. He doesn’t seem lethargic or anything, quite the opposite.

    What are your suggestions?

Also, we’ve ordered some high protein Bk oak from Henry’s and we are waiting on those. Right now he is eating Tekland rodent blocks but is very very picky!

Fruits are a treat.. not a main meal item, and too many can cause diarrhea.
If the avocado is the culprit.. the poop will be greenish.

With avocado remember no skin or pit.
Was he on formula? If so, did he wean himself?
Can you post a picture of him?

No skins... the people who I got him from were going him cows milk which I know is a no no... we’ve gone to water and solids, because I believe he was at that age.

At eight weeks these babies would still be nursing momma or be on a proper formula
with a quality rodent block as their first and only solid eating well before introducing
    other foods.

If he is eating the rodent blocks (3 a day) and drinking water do I need to put him on formula? Stools are back to normal and he is still full of energy.

I would offer him formula to see if he will take it... if he does, try three times per day for now.
If he does not want it don't worry about it. I have had some that wean off formula in the 8th week.

If he is eating the block well start introducing some green vegetables like bok choy, cabbage, or broccoli.

You can also offer formula in a bowl if he resists being fed by syringe. Vanilla full fat yogurt offered in a bowl is liked, too.
