Default My Pet Squirrel Kevin's nails are ripped. Help

So Kevin the Squirrel has nearly ripped off his front paw nail from having it stuck between the wires on the corner of the cage. It's not really broken, but he grunts everytime you slightly touch it. I put some neosporin on it but he just licks it. He limps around when he moves and he does not move that finger much. I don't think he can. I clipped his nail so that it does not get caught on things in his cage since he cannot move his nail/finger. His nearly ripped nail is quite loose and it twists around when he moves. Please help.Name: 20190522_151347.jpg

They will be tender for some time, just like a hangnail when moved.

Our girl on occasion broke or tore one of her claws, that were ouchy till they grew out.

Eventually, if broken below the quick, they will fall off; but will grow back in again.

My squirrels have each torn a nail out while playing on their ropes in their cages. Is this normal? Should I not be letting them play on rope?

Toe nails as well as tails have been injured and or permanently damaged by pinch points in cages.
Cages should be checked periodically, even a "new" cage can become loose at seams over time.
Check this post for ideas/ suggestions to correct cage pinch points.
