    Default Help! Possible pneumonia

Hello a baby squirrel fell out of the nest at my home and the nest seems abandoned with no mother around , It was bleeding by the nose and I have been taking care of it for a week and it’s eyes are still closed . Sometime she drinks out of the Syringe to fast and it comes out her nose she is making a slight clicking noise and now she also has these little pimples on the inside of her legs which she didn’t have before . No vet around me takes wildlife so I can’t get baytril but my dog she got prescribed an antibiotics simplicef cefpodoxime pills . Can I give her price of that or how much because I think she has pneumonia

Aprilgeorge, this is an old thread.
It would be good if you started a new one in the life threatening help forum.
To dose any type of medication you will need the baby's weight and strength of the medicine.
What type of formula are you feeding right now.
I'm not an expert here on the board, but you'll definitely need a weight on the baby.
Pictures and/or video are also always helpful.

Aprilgeorge, everyone is really busy with babies right now, but someone will be here to help as soon as they can.
I have never treated a baby with pneumonia nor dosed medication.
What type of formula are you feeding and what size syringe are you using?

Thank you lukaslolamaus. I made a new thread, and pm'd Aprilgeorge this link.

Aprilgeorge, call your family and friends and see if they have ONE cipro (human ab.)
or Baytril (animal ab.) OR Clavamox (animal ab) or Augmentin (human ab)

We can dose it for you if you let us know the strength (mg.) and the weight of you
    squirrel in grams.

What size syringe are you using, and what formula.
This is the formula that we always recommend.

I cannot find any dosing info for this med, and from what I am reading about it, I don't think it is really what you need. Someone else may have more info.

Can you contact your female friends and see if anyone has had a urinary tract infection that they were given Cipro for. It is the med usually given for UTIs, and it is also basically the human form of Baytril. If you can get just ONE pill we can help you properly dilute it for use for your baby. That IS what you need for aspiration pneumonia.

April, most likely you need a prescription for that med at chewys. You also do not have time to wait for someone to send you that drug.

The best thing to do is what Critter mom suggested, contact friends and see if anyone has 1 pill of Baytril/Cipro or Clavamox/ augmentin. You can also use doxycycline and amoxicillin. Time is of the essence, AP is very deadly but very treatable with those antibiotics. We also need the strength of the meds. We can guess on the baby’s weight.

What size syringe are you using?
At this age you don't want anything larger than
a 1 cc syringe. Are you using a nipple?
Also can you get the Powdered Puppy Esbilac
like the one in the photo above. Most pet stores or
    tractor supply stores sell this.
The goat's milk doesn't have the proper nutrients
    for a baby squirrel.

Also here is an excellent like on caring for baby
squirrels. It's 6 pages long (very quick read though)with the NEXT button on
    the top right hand side.

Amazon has the correct formula, and if you have Prime, you'll
probably get it by Monday, if you can't find it near you.

It possibly could be a staff infection. Try putting triple antibiotic ointment on it. If you have betadine put a few drops in water a make a ‘weak tea’ and wipe that on the affected area.

Let us know ASAP when you get the med. if he gets fussy about eating, lethargic, and/or a regular clicking, you must get antibiotics or you will lose him.

Thanks so much I changed the puppy milk to the correct kind yesterday and last night and today he has not made any clicking noises anymore he is eating good . I position him sprawled out on his tummy when eating so it does not go in his nose , I also put antibiotics ointment on the pimples , he seems to be doing good today , I will go buy some betadine too

will keep an eye out on him and make sure he keeps on getting better
