What do you need an antibiotic for? Different meds treat different ailments.
If it’s for aspiration pneumonia, Baytril (animal)/ Ciproflaxin (human) or Clavamox (animal)/Augmentin (human). If you list what medicines you have someone will be able to tell you if they will work and dose it for you.
In my previous post I listed some antibiotics that would be good, both the name if prescribed for an animal and the name if prescribed for people. Call around to family and friends to try to locate a single pill, even if it’s expired, we can help you break it down and dose it.
Where are you located in Florida...what town? There are lots of members in Florida and maybe you are close enough to one of us that we can provide you the medication you need. There are also several vets around the state that will see squirrels and I can give you their names and numbers so you could take your little one to one of them.
Time is critical. If your little one has AP it can take them down fast.

I already gave the first dise of Ciproflaxin to messi but now I'm noting that he is weeker. He doesn't want to eat.I'm super worry because all this is coincide whit we change the formula because we were deeding him with cat milk and I read that its bad for him,so we change ti esbilac puppy milk.I don't know now if its that he doesn't like the new formula or its because he feels bad.The only good notice is that I do not heard the wird sound. Can I know how to mix the esbilac milk?,maybe i'm mixing on the wrong way.
You are using POWDERED Esbilac puppy milk replacer, correct? Mix it one part powder to 2 parts hot water. Mix it very well, it’s best to allow it to sit in the fridge for a few hours then mix again before feeding.
The weakness is probably due to the pneumonia and not feeling well. What he’s experiencing is definitely not from the Esbilac formula. The kitten milk does not have the proper nutrients to sustain him, so switching to the proper formula (Esbilac) was necessary.
Give him some time to get used to the new taste of the formula. You can try adding a small amount of vanilla full fat yogurt to his formula and see if he likes it better. Also try giving him some water that’s been sweetened slightly with a touch of honey or sugar. Give the water IN BETWEEN his scheduled feedings and not IN PLACE of his feedings. A dehydrated squirrel won’t eat well and can’t process the food correctly if it does eat. Please go slowly feeding the formula and the water so he doesn’t aspirate again.
Continue with the antibiotic for the full course of treatment. I hope he feels better tomorrow. Please keep us posted.
I hope you bought the powdered Esbilac puppy formula. The liquid Esbilac is not the same and it is bad for squirrels. When changing formula we transition to the new formula slowly so that it minimizes GI problems.
The powdered puppy Esbilac is mixed 1 part powder with 2 parts of very warm water. Shake it thoroughly and let it go into solution. We try to mix it in advance. I mix it the night before I feed it. I would give it at least 6 hrs before you feed it.
A proper transition would be 75% kitten milk with 25% Esbilac for a few feedings. Then 50% kitten milk with 50% Esbilac for a few feedings. Then 25% kitten milk with 75% Esbilac and then full strength Esbilac. Slowly switching over helps to prevent GI issues and also helps to transition the taste of a new formula. Sometimes they will reject a new formula because it tastes different.

. I have two types only of yogourt in home right now.One is a liquid yogourt of brand Yo Gusto (it is a sweetened natural plain yogourt) and the other i have its from Activia brand with probiotic of straberry banana flavor and also i have the same but peach flavor. Those activia yogourts are the one semi-solid that you have to eat with a spoon. My question is: Can I use any of those yogourts brand to mix with the esbilac powder and if yes which are the mesurement????.I need help because i see him very week and he do not want to eat the formula along. I also have peanut butter,i do t know if i can use it.I also want to know if the water i gave to him has to be warm too.Thank you
Messi,
One of my friends is an excellent rehabber and she lives in Miami. If you could bring Messi to her she can examine him, give you advice and go over proper care. She won't steal him from you and is totally trustworthy.
Can I put you two in touch?

It is wonderful that Kim has offered to put you in touch with someone in Miami that can help you and evaluate your little one.
Yes, the water should be warm when you offer it to him. As for the yogurt, I’ve never added a flavored yogurt, I’ve always used vanilla. I mix up 2 tablespoons of powdered formula to 4 tablespoons of hot water. In that amount of formula I probably add about 1/2 teaspoon of yogurt. You could try one of the flavors. The idea is for it to make the formula a little more flavorful and appealing so he’ll eat.
Hello,I need someone near North Miami beach,FL that can help me and give me Baytril because I have been using Ciproflaxin 0.03 ml two times per day as I was told and Messi has been improving but very slowly. Can I have someone that can help me out please🙏.I do not have any vet near who attend squirrels,at least not that I know 😫
I’m not sure how far it is from you, but I know of a vet in Deerfield Beach, FL that sees squirrels. I am further north than that, near Sebastian, and would be happy to meet you somewhere. I have meds that I can share.
Cipro and Baytril are essentially the same medicine. Baytril is the animal version. How long has Messi been on the Cipro? If you’re seeing some improvement, that’s good. What makes you think it’s not working well?
