    Question Baby bunny found

A group of disabled adults was cleaning out a garden destroyed the rabbit nest by the time staff realized the problem they were able to only find one baby and couldn't figure out where the nest was originally. They totally destroyed the majority of the area and the building on the property is in the process of being roofed. There's a lot of debris and lot of noise. There was no place safe to leave the baby and it was doubtful from my perspective Mama was going to return. That being said anybody with experience with baby bunnies ? I have successfully raised and released 4 which is really not many. and could use whatever input people have to offer. I have consulted a couple of threads. II've got it in a dark room in a small container with heat source. She may be a bit dehydrated skin is not bouncing back immediately. Eyes seem vacant. She is just under 70 grams.. here's what I have on hand. I have Fox Valley electrostat, can I use that for bunnies for rehydration? I have Fox Valley 32/40. I have benebac that I can use for a probiotic I also have Fox Valley probiotic although it expired in December. I consulted the wild baby first 48 hours and it recommends antibiotics prophylactic doses. . Where the baby was certainly stressed I'm concerned . I see the recommendations and have access to several different antibiotics ones that were recommended . But also I am aware of the baby's a little bit older so I am not sure if at least some of the recommendations may not apply because of its age . Baby probably in the process of weaning off of mom currently how far should I take the books recommendations is there any bunnies specialist in the house? TIA.

Can you post a picture? I think electrostat is fine for bunnies but I am no expert.

Attaching photo did lookup the thread by Cava. I don't know bunny doesn't look too good. I don't like that glazed look in her eye. And she's not willingly taking the electro stat either. If you could have heard the chaos from the roofers I can't even be sure mom came back last night and fed her. It's quite possible the others either vacated the nest TY my friend... not looking too good for the home team. It's pretty much how this bunny looked when I got it which was only a couple hours ago. Poor baby had to been absolutely traumatized terrified out of its mind. The difference between this one and others I've handled is it in the other cases I was the one that found them originally. People don't realize how fragile bunnies are. I cannot be sure the baby hadn't been thrown or stepped on all his limbs appear intact though and there's no visible signs of injury. However I am aware of the atmosphere surrounding the place where it was found. And the nest was torn up by two individuals with developmental disabilities I cannot be sure of anything.

Milos mom has posted several times about what to feed baby bunnies. They are very susceptible to die from stress. I am going to take a picture of what I wrote down as the bunny formula recipe that Milos mom posted.

Protocol for rehydration is generally 24 hours correct? At least I know that for squirrels and then it's a slow transition to formula. It's been years since I've done bunnies and I'm sure I didn't do it correctly the first time just double-checking it all. I know they like their formula warm.... thanks for the input. I'm worried baby does not look good

Eyes are open and it's a cottontail. I don't think formula is a good idea at this point. You'll screw up the gut flora. Sorry Mel, but awesome notes!!

Bottled spring water in a shallow dish (lid to a jar with some marbles works well)

Timothy Hay (make sure it's TIMOTHY HAY)

    Oxbow juvenile bunny pellets

Once you see the hay in the poop, offer pellets, once eating hay and pellets well, offer a DIME SIZED piece of greens. Next day if poop is good, offer 2 DIME SIZED pieces of greens, next day if poop is good offer 3 dime sized pieces and so on and so forth until an entire leaf is offered. Once a whole leaf is consumed you may offer greens daily.

If the bunny is the size of your fist (or a tennis ball) it is on its own and doesn't require any assistance...in other words, put the bunny back outside in an area with cover from above (brush or shrub line) and walk away.

Don't fuss with it, don't play with it. Tend to it twice daily and other wise forget it exists.

EDIT: and whatever you do, DO NOT put it on heat!

It's not quite that big based on its weight is about 14 days old somewhere between 12 and 14 give or take. So no formula at all? It's about half the size of my fist maybe a little more. I also don't have a safe place to leave it like I said they've torn up the whole yard and they're tearing the roof off the building I could leave it in some unfamiliar place but he seems pretty weak to me

You can do whatever you wish. I would not give formula if in my care. If you do and it gets runny poop 99% of the time they die. It's extremely hard to turn around once gut flora is screwed.

You're going to have to find an area. Start looking. If you don't release now you will need too in a week or two, if it survives. They arent like squirrels, you literally drop them off and walk away.

Just a quick update : bunny is improving. Eating and drinking and getting ornery! My guess is a few days at as soon as I get a few days of clear weather Without Rain we have already picked a place to let her go.. I found a place with a good water source lots of green grasses wooded areas for protection if she needs it! thank you ladies for your input. Milo's mom thanks again! And Mel.. you rock! I will post a picture when she goes free!
