Meet Chip—surviver of a wood chipper. A treeman brought Chip and his brother this evening. They were tucked way down in a hollow limb. Young man saw the brother fall as the branch was being lowered. He reached into the hollow and felt every nook and cranny. The log was tossed into the chipper. It was a huge limb and when it split the young man saw this baby and actually reached into the chipper to save him. Poor sweetheart was violently shaken by that chipper to within an inch of his tiny life. Brother is doing pretty good—for a baby who fell on his nose but even though Chip is sipping fluids and no longer limp, I think he’s been damaged by the violent shaking of the chipper. He may have one leg that isn’t functional—it’s limp—and his tiny head turns funny and his little mouth looks like he’s chewing. I’m worried about him. He could use some loving vibes and prayers—and maybe some meds. I was going to give him some Meloxicam but waited to see if he would become more responsive. He has, but dear heaven, his responses aren’t what I hoped for. Suggestions anyone for a sweet little shaken baby?
