Domesticated Squirrel injury

We have had our pet grey eastern squirrel for 6 years since a baby. He got out and went up a tree and somehow got the left side of his nose taken off. He is Having trouble breathing and eating and drinking. What can we do for him. He also has drainage coming out both eyes. How hard will it be for him to heal.

If the drainage from the eyes is milky white, that is a sign of pain.

I uploaded a pic. He is drinking koolaid that is causing the red around his mouth. He has been seen by a vet one time a couple of years ago. Planning on checking with the vet Wednesday when we get disability check but need helpin what to do for him before then.

I can see you added a picture... poor bub looks like he is not feeling well at all.

When did this injury occur?

The top of his snout appears quite swollen, is it? I am worried about a head injury / trauma. If you can get a clearer picture that would be a big help.

If you can apply some antibiotic ointment to the wounds, that is a start. But make sure not to impair his breathing... if he is still breathing through his nose you do not want to make that any more difficult for him.

He is going to need some pain medication but it is important to know if this injury includes a head trauma, that changes the course of treatment.

I would not give him kool-aid too much processed sugar. This would be better for him:
Homemade Rehydration Fluid

• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, honey or apple juice
  
• 2 cups warm water
• Store in refrigerator. Discard after 24 hours.

Note: If he refuses this, try leaving out the salt.

How far can you travel to see a vet tomorrow?

He's climbing up and down shade to his drink which is sugar free crystal light. He didn't take a fall. It happened up in a tree because his nose was covered in blood when he came down. It happened Sunday morning. We won't have money for a vet until Wednesday or a day off until then. We will do the cream and fluid mix.

No crystal light!!! That has artificial sweeteners and can cause seizures.

Aspartame is also known to cause cancer in rodents... Just say no to giving Crystal Light to your squirrel.

Address his pain and inflammation!
The "discharge" is a squirrel's tears, this squirrel is crying with pain and his injury is
obviously swollen making it even more difficult to breathe.
Surely you can purchase some infant ibuprofen if you have no other options to meds.

I am so sorry to hear about your sweet squirrels injury. I can tell you love him very much and are very worried. Let’s see how we can help you.

The injury does look like it is painful causing him to not feel well. Getting an anti inflammatory on board would be very helpful. You can get infant ibuprofen at the drug store and we can dose it for you. While you are there see if you can get a 1 ml syringe to measure the medicine. Ask the pharmacist and tell him/her you are feeding an orphan kitten. They usually give it for free.

The next thing that would be very important would be getting an antibiotic. Check to see if you have any augmentin or amoxicillin. If You don’t have any antibiotics ask friends or family, you just need one pill. We would need the strength of the pill, what kind of pill, a picture of your squirrel if you don’t know his weight.

Let us know what you find and we will dose for you.

Wanted to give you an update. Whatever he did in the tree Sunday pushed his teeth up into his nose and they're coming out it. Giving him infant Motrin and antibiotic cream. Will be taking him to vet early in the morning to get him taken care of.

Update: We took Weewee to vet. His tooth was too long and when he was in tree did something to push it up into roof of mouth through to nose. They cut it and took it out and put him on antibiotics. Said his teeth are messed up in front and need to come out. Just not sure how he'll it when that's done. Thanks for your help.
