    Default Pneumonia Help Please!

Yesterday I found 4 baby squirrels estimated to be 4 weeks old. One of them passed over night from pneumonia and I need to prevent this from happening to the others. 2 of them are eating great and the other one doesn't seem to have an appetite. I gave them their last round of the pedialyte this morning around 7 am. I've been doing a lot of research and have found that I need to administer an antibiotic. The only one I had on hand was Amoxicillin 500 mg powder capsule. I followed the instructions from another website and combined it with 10mL of 1/2 water & 1/2 pedialyte. I have him .03cc of the mixture. A couple hours later I gave him some yogurt to help with his stomach and he really seemed to enjoy that. I plan to give another dose around 7pm tonight but I need reassurance that I am doing this correctly. He does not have a loud clicking sound like the one that passes and doesn't seem to have issues breathing, but when I put my ear up to him, I hear a faint clicking sound. Any direction or information would be most helpful. I have switched all of them to formula. Giving them 2.5cc of Esbilac puppy milk replacer powder. Also, he weighs 58g.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not understand mixing with 1/2 pedialyte, should have been just plain water.
Dosage for 58grams would be 0.0232
    BID -
The dose will be 0.02, given twice daily twelve hours apart.
Give a probiotic in between doses.
    Dose this for 5-7 days.
Amoxi is not the ideal drug for pneumonia.
See if you can get Baytril (Animal antibiotic) or Cipro Human ab., OR Clavamox (Animal antibiotic) or Augmentin Human ab.

At 58grams 5% feeding would be 2.9 cc's according to body weight.
Is the Esbilac as pictured below?

Thank you! I will remix a new 500mg amox pill with just water. Was mixing with 10ml correct? I will up their feeding to 2.9cc and I have a scale so I can weigh them every morning/night. And yes, it is the one pictured on the right is the exact on I have. Do you have any idea where I could get a better AB? I will start asking around.

I was using a larger one but I found it hard to control the small drops. I went to the store this morning and got two 1cc syringes from the pharmacist. She was kind enough to give me two of them this morning.

Yes, the 10 ml is correct.
Call around to friends and relatives, they may have 1 pill left over.
Remember the Baytril is for animals as is the Clavamox, so call people with pets.
Cipro is commonly prescribed to women for UTI's.

Yes, I will get started on this right away, if I find something I will come back here for proper dosage. I have plenty of friends/family with pets. I'm sure I can find something.

    That was nice of her!
The only problem with pharmacy syringes is that they don't last long.
I think they are typically used as a one shot deal, but that's for drugs.
You should get more than one feeding out of these, but pick up some
O ring syringes, you'll love them.

You can get great 1 ml syringes here, and they love the miracle nipple.
If you don't want to go that route, you can get the silicone nipples.
You want several of the 1 ml syringes, and then several of the 3 ml for
    when they get bigger.
Also, the shipping is the same whatever you get, so stock up
and you'll pay a flat rate shippiing of I think $5.99

It doesn't look like she has miracle nipples except for in the pack with
the syringe. That will give you only 1 nipple.
    Let me check another site.

You would want the original miracle nipple. They come in packs of 2 or 10.
You can also get your syringes there, so that you don't have to pay shipping at
    2 different places.

    Here are the syringes.

Thank you so much! I ordered 10 of each syringe and 4 of the nipples. I am so glad I came here. You all have been a great help.
