good morning i have question about acorns with young squirrels. why is good for them to to have them?
in the wild they are exposed to them as well as other natural berries and leaves.

in the wild they are exposed to them as well as other natural berries and leaves.

Squirrels in captivity should have limited nuts. Young squirrel should not have any nuts. In the wild they have a vast variety of food to chose from, and nuts and seeds are seasonal. Captive squirrels are limited to what we as humans provide them and the evidence is clear.

Captive squirrels fed nuts develop MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease) because the nuts actually cause calcium depletion of their bones. MBD is a fatal disease if not treated correctly and the diet fixed.

Acorns are particularly problematic as they can grow mold which apparently wild squirrels are wise about avoiding, but captive squirrels tend to eat whatever we give them, even when we provide bad things unknowingly.
