Default Can squirrels have cactus pear?

Has anyone fed cactus pear to their squirrels? I’m not even sure what type of vegetable/fruit category it would fall under. I will wait to feed till I get some input.

Are you talking about the prickly pear fruit that you find in the grocery store or something off a plant you found outside?

I have fed dragon fruit before which mostly resulted in a lot of pink staining everywhere but it wasn't popular enough for me to try again. Genuine prickly pear fruit has tons of nutrients in it, but they also have lots of tiny spines that you will get in your hands when you deal with them, so I have never bothered.

It’s the type you buy at the grocery store. No spines in it.

A google search for 'squirrel prickly pear' results in a lot of pictures of wild (ground) squirrels eating it.

Thank you, Now i know it’s not harmful to them. Whether they eat it is another story.

FWIW, my guys usually love the thick tops you cut off more than the mushy inside.

Not trying to thread jack but seeing that we're on this topic anyone know anything about the night blooming cereus? It's a type of cactus plant but it has no thorns on it. I just inherited one from my uncle that passed. It used to be my Granny's. But Sammy is going nuts for it. He's gotten into it and eaten a small amount once and seemed fine but I didn't want to give it to him without knowing. I've been keeping it outside but had to bring it in because of the weather. I'm just keeping it in one of my kids' rooms to keep it away from him.
