    Default Roxie's botfly worm

Roxie is an outdoor squirrel with a month old baby. Roxie has a botfly worm on her neck that looks like it's ready to come out soon. Should I take her to the vet Friday, which is an hour and a half drive, or let the worm come out of its own? I don't know where she's moved her baby to so it would be alone for 5 hours.

Those things are such a holes. Is she acting ok? I wouldn't take her away from her baby, those things come out on their own. Unless you see it's impeding her ability to mother or get around, etc, or signs of infection.

  3. Serious fuzzy thank you's to cava from:

Thanks for the advice. What antiseptic should I squirt on it after it comes out?

Use some diluted Betadine solution. Mix it with some warm water till it looks like the color of strong tea. You can the put it in a squirt bottle or use a cotton ball to apply it.

Definitely do NOT take her to the vet. They are vile things but it will exit soon by itself. Based on the looks of it, it probably has another week before it exits.
It might stress her so bad she could abandon her babies although she does look pretty comfortable in your hand.

Hey I have a friend that just moved to your town.
