Default Companion for my rescued baby squirrel

Hello, this is my first post. We rescued a baby squirrel from a Fallen Tree about a month ago, his name is Bingbong. His eyes have just recently opened and he is very healthy and active. We are wondering if there are any animals such as hamsters that would make a good companion for him as he seems lonely and always wants to be held. We give him a lot of attention but would be nice if he had a friend to play with while we're out.
    Any information appreciated. Thanks

No, no "companion" animals other than maybe other baby squirrels around his own age. Grey squirrels are solitary as adults and not overly tolerant of other squirrels.

Are you planning to release him when the time comes?

Second on NO companion animals! Unless you are a licensed rehabber the chances of finding another squirrel of the same age is practically zero. Just give him lot's of love an attention and keep him away from other animals in the house if you have any.

What kind of formula is he on?

This is the only diet to use once he is ready for solids: https://www.henryspets.com/healthy-d...pet-squirrels/

The first solid he should learn to nibble on is a quality rodent block. https://www.squirrelsandmore.com/col...-diet-4-lb-bag

My Wife and I are retired and would love to take care of the squirrel. We have no pets and all the time in the world to love and take care of it. We have taken in allot of different animals in the past and all have survived and thrived. We have a very loving house hold. We live in Sevierville TN Let us know if we can help. thank you Stephen and Veronica August

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the late reply. We went out of town for a few days (the squirrel came with us). Good information about getting him a companion. We've been giving him plenty of attention and he seems very happy he's started nibbling on small apple slices and rodent blocks. He's been on a consistent diet of esbilac with a small amount of Greek yogurt for the probiotics.

He is doing great getting heavy and starting to get pretty playful. I got about halfway done building an outdoor cage for him yesterday it is about 7 ft tall by 5 ft wide by 5 ft deep. Going to put several tree branches in for him to climb around on. He will also have a tunnel coming into the house where he can hang out in a smaller cage in our living room.
