Default Can't find rehabber, no vet will treat..HELP!

I am known as crazy animal lady, but have never cared for a baby squirrel. One was brought to me two days ago. Guessing two weeks old. Could not locate nest or mama. No local rehabber. No vet will treat. Today I came home to find him bloated, stuffy bloody nose, labored clicking breathing. Is there anything I can do?

Infant Gas X (simethicone) may help with the bloat.

Do you have any antibiotics? If not, ask friends and neighbors.

Do you know how much this little one weighs?

Did she fall to get the bloody nose?

I have no idea how he got bloody nose or how much he weighs. I gave a drop of amoxicillin because its all I had. Seemed better for about five mins, now seems laboring more

I had him in a tank on soft cloth under heat lamp so cats couldn't get him, so he didn't fall over the past few days

Never feed a bloated baby, bloat can kill. If you can get some Infant Gas X, you can give him a drop of that.

Antibiotics like Amoxil on the other hand should be dosed by weight, and weight is critical for meds as well as feeding. Do you have a kitchen scale?

Heat lamps are bad... here is a 6 page primer on caring for baby squirrels:

What are you feeding him, exactly what? As well as how much and how often.

If you can share your general location, we may be able to find experienced help for this little one.

Closest city is Abilene, TX. I called zoo, but they only take birds. Closest rehabber is almost three hrs away and can't take til Saturday. I don't have gas x, I have tums but don't know if that will help. I don't have a kitchen scale either. I have been feeding watered down kmr. Read it isn't ideal but works and all I have. He has been taking maybe 6-7 drops 5 times a day

The KMR is likely causing the bloat, the tums will not help but Gax X will. Can you get some?

KMR is terrible for squirrels, not sure where the info came from that it works. We usually see KMR do harm to squirrels.

At 2 weeks they need to be eating around the clock and 6 - 7 drops is not enough per feeding. But a weight would help know this... and droppers are terrible. Small 1ML syringes are used for baby squirrels for feeding.

Ok, yeah I never planned on this and wasn't prepared at all. Lady who brought him to meant well but couldn't show me where they found him til a day after. I can get gas x and heat pad tomorrow but nothing close is open.

Do you have any other antibiotics available? Amoxil can work but is not the best. If you have anything else, tell us what it is and someone will let you know if it will work better than Amoxil and help with dosing.

And maybe post a picture of the baby so we can guesstimate the weight. Include something like a soda can next to him for reference.

Goat's Milk would be better (but only temporary) than KMR if you have that.

Sorry to be succinct, I have a very compromised baby I am dealing with now so I am posting what I have time for...

I have oxytetracycline. I tried a sq injection of a drop or two but my needles are too big and didn't want to keep poking for nothing.

I appreciate any help you can give, no worries!

It is dangerous to experiment with meds without knowing the guarantee of safety.
Penicillian or tetracycline should not be given to any rodent including squirrels.

Do not attempt to feed that baby anything until the bloat is resolved, that bloat is
already endangering it's life. If AP don't take him out it will.
Have you tried warm water soaks?
Place the baby in a container of warm water up to it's arm pits while stroking in a
down ward motion down it's sides. Be patent and be persistent, this procedure has
worked for many a bloated baby.
