Default Has anyone fed Nut Squares from Squirrelnutrition.com

Has anyone used this? Good or bad reviews? I got a pack and my guy loves it but I am worried it is not a complete diet even though he claims it to be. Harlan Teklad is what he was on but it was like pulling teeth to get him to eat those. I would have to grind them up and add baby food and he still would prefer to eat anything but...

Any info you have on them would be great.

    Here is the problem...

Squirrel Nutrition recommends a scalded cows milk formula for baby squirrels that has resulted in pretty much everyone here helping people with emergencies because of it, and since most of the time the babies are skeletal by the time their finders find US, we have gotten to watch WAY too many baby squirrels die because of this ridiculous advice.

Because of this, he could come up with a cure for cancer and most of the people here (and most rehabbers) would be VERY SKEPTICAL. When I hear "Squirrelnutrition.com" I literally see a picture of emaciated baby squirrels in my minds eye. So I would never choose to use any food he recommends, fairly or unfairly. Especially when I can order the food from Henry's (www.henryspets.com) which I know has been thoroughly researched.

I don't think they are going to kill anything but I would never trust them as anything but an occasional treat, not a staple diet.

If I recall, it's EXTREMELY high in nuts. I think the recipe tries to negate them by dumping a bunch of calcium. Not the best diet and potentially dangerous.

The "Nut Squares Kit" contains alfalfa powder which is not good for a squirrel, is too high in nuts, and is not designed by a qualified nutritionist. This is the same site that religiously hawks Scalded Milk to emaciate infant squirrels and recommends Colloidal Silver as a substitute for proper antibiotics despite the FDA warnings. I'm not afraid to say it on here or to Bill in person. I have had heated arguments with him and Clarissa before and there is no reasoning with either of them.

Use up what you have and order from Henry's.

Thank you everyone!! I thought it was extremely high in nuts, so of course my guy loves it. I will try the Henry's blocks and see if he likes those more than the Harlan blocks.

It's no different from human children as squirrels also prefer to eat what is bad for them. Harlan-Teklad 2018 can be made into "Boo Balls" and there are many excellent recipes if you search "Boo Balls" on the TSB search. Here is one such example of recipes: https://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/...dly-Cook-Book)

Teklad 2018 is a complete diet and cheaper than Henry's Blocks if budget is a consideration. If you order Henry's Adult Blocks make sure you put them in the freezer as they are perishable.
