Dark discharge coming from nose

My female, Buttons, has a dark discharge around her nose. I noticed it last week, but I though is was dirt from burrying her nuts. It is a very dark brown. . However, today, she was hanging upside down eating a nut and she sneezed. I don’t know if she sneezed to clear her nose or sneezed because of something more. Anyway, I got a good look and it’s definitely not dirt. I’m not sure what kind of sicknesses squirrels get or what to give them when they do get sick. Advice is greatly appreciated. I’m worried sick. FYI, she is a release. I released her about 3 months. It is mating season here.

Do you think it's blood? If so, it could be from a fall with injury to the face. It is possible she's been digging in something and you're first thought is correct that she's clearing what she had her face in today. Can you take a photo, that would help, of her and the discharge.

I will take a photo tomorrow evening when I feed them. I hope it’s just dirt, but I feel like it’s not.

What I also noticed is that she has spot under her chin. It also looks like a dirt spot. I thought it looked like it had a small puncture in it. Something may have bitten her. It has been there several days too. It’s hard for me to gets photos of her. She doesn’t like my phone.

It looked darker yesterday. She must have cleaned it some. It still looks gnarly. Maybe she has a sinus infection or something. What can I do for her?

Now I'm not sure how to advise without doing some research. How does she look today? Is she having any obvious breathing difficulty or have her symptoms worsened?

Have you physically SEEN the discharge - like snot dripping - or are you assuming there is discharge from her nose because of the crusty stuff around it?

I ask because up here during black walnut season we get lots of people on the board panicked by what is actually the dark brown "dye" that is in the husks. Too early in the season for that but they do stash nuts and there is no reason that this couldn't come from a stashed nut.

I haven’t fed her today yet, but I’ve noticed her sneezing, especially if she eating upside down.
