5 days ago I received from a friend a very young chipmunk who left his nest because the mother did not return to it. His two litter mates died. His eyes are open but he appears to be very young. I put him on a heating pad and fed him esbilac and he loved it. I removed the heating pad yesterday as he has become very active and does not seem to need the extra warmth. I feed him formula 4 times a day and he has eaten some avocado and strawberry. I also offer him rodent food from the pet store.
When I received him his hair appeared tufted on his right cheek and arm. To my alarm the skin has flaked off and the hair has come off as well. This condition seems to be spreading! How can I continue to help this chipmunk? And can I give him anything that will stop his hair loss?
Thanks so much,
Marcella, a friend to squirrels
