Default Need a release rehabber for overwintered Flyer in New England.

Hi all. We have a southern Flyer named Rocket that we overwintered. I don't know how to release a flyer since they need colonies, unlike grays that I've released before.

Is there anyone in the New England area with flyers that will be released this year? Maybe rocky could join them?

Failing that does anyone know how to release a flyer such that they will find a colony and survive?

They do need to be released in an area where there are other flyers as they are communal.
I've "altered" your subject just a tad for better attention to what you are seeking to accomplish.

Thanks! I know there were flyers here last year because we heard them. If we hear them again I can update and maybe someone could help me with a release plan here?

We haven't heard that characteristic chirping sound yet this spring however.

1 flyer is free & the other didn't want to leave :-)

Center for wildlife is the name. It may be a long drive but rocket would be very happy with the end result

I’m a little confused. If this is a southern flyer why is it being released in New England? I know nothing about flyers so I don’t know if they are vastly different in size and have differences in the thickness of their fur like northern and southern grays do? I’m just asking the question.

Mel, Southern Flying Squirrels are becoming the predominant flyer species here in the US, I'm told. They exist everywhere, and there is even some disussion about northernmost states having cross-breeding of Southerns and Northerns. My little Avia, my first flyer last year, was from right here in the Bronx, NY, and she was a Southern flyer.

This is probably because of climate change pushing them further north. Here is a Nat Geo article about major redistribution of species across the planet:
