I use cutters similar to the one's Chris' sells.

When I was trying to figure out how to trim Sammy's teeth for the first time this is the site that helped me. There is a video on there.

I burrito Sammy up and try to make sure his arms are pinned down. The wooden dowels were too small for me so I've used a pencil to slide in from the side behind his teeth. I just make sure it's not pinching his lips or cheeks anywhere. That helps keep his mouth open and teeth visible. I use my thumb on the hand I'm holding him with to pull his lower lips down so I can see the whole tooth. Then I just clip from the side one at a time. Then I use a metal file to file them. Hope this helps.
Even though I'm used to it now because I've been doing Sammy's for about a year and a half, I still get nervous.
