Unfortunately, I lost a little guy today. I'm going to explain the symptoms in hopes someone can tell me what they suspect and improve me and caution others down the road.
Found a few-days old male, very cold, very dehydrated, underfed, etc. Warmed, rehydrated, and fed and got him to seemingly a good state over the next week+.
Yesterday, he started developing a swollen eye that went from moderately alarming to highly alarming in a matter of hours (Had started putting antibiotic ointment on the eye). He became restless (uncharacteristic for his behavior), didn't eat nearly as much, but did take to pedialite.
Later that night, he continue to be lethargic, on/off high-fever, squealed when what seemed to be discarding a lot of urine. In the morning, the eye hadn't improved, ended up coughing blood up, and died a few hours later.
First thought was aspiration & pneumonia, but it progressed very quickly, with no wheezing/clicking/sporadic breathing, combined with the eye infection, he was taken quickly.
Second would be the eye infection alone, but I don't think that would cause the blood being coughed up.
Finally, perhaps the manifestation of the condition I originally found him in.
Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks
