I hate he is feeling so awful. I know that is stressful for all of you. Prayers sent your way!

and necessity warranted we could raise it slowly.

Not sure he is in 'pain' but just know he feels like CRAP as one does with a very bad infection
    throughout the body.

He is not groggy but very lethargic.

Just a few moments ago, Stosh reached in to touch/caress Dude and Stosh said, "....he felt
    very stiff... but was deep asleep {isn't it usual to be relaxed when deep asleep - not tense?? ...." }

Stosh felt 'concern' at Dude feeling so stiff to the touch so took him out and held him wrapped in
his sweatshirt for about 5 minutes. Dude did not want to be held and awakened immediately.
He was given a drink, peed, and he wanted to go back to bed.
He NEVER goes to bed during the day but that is where he is now.

    ? Suggestions
Absolutely DO NOT want to make a bad situation worse..... but would like Dude to at least be
as comfortable as possible considering the present situation.

    What to do.
OK thank you for explaining the Metacam.
It's strange that Dude felt stiff. Yes, when they sleep sometimes they
are like a limp dish rag, other times they wake immediatley.
Not sure what is going on with Dude. I wonder if he is in pain and the stiffness comes
from not wanting to relax his muscles.
How does his body temp. feel?
    You can give Tramadol.
I think you have the 50 mg size, just confirm that, and
    give his weight in grams.
I will keep checking the board periodically.

Watch the Dude's ears and eyes to help judge if he is in pain. When in pain, they sometimes pin their ears down closer to their head and of course squirrel tears look milky. I hope he is just being groggy today but the reduced activity is generally not a good sign.

Thought some of you might like an update even though we really don't have a whole lot to tell.

All Dude wants is to sleep. He will raise his head up and look if we touch or pet him but stirs very little.
He has come out a couple of times to drink maranon {maran yon - as pronounced } then Dude goes
    right back to sleep.

Because he is sleeping so much Stosh has opted {at this time} not to give him any meds that may depress
    his breathing, heart rate, etc.
I am thinking, though, that I may go ahead at 4pm and give Dude his Metacam. It is a very small dose I think.

We took him out just a short time ago to pee.... he did really good. Weighed him - since March 9th he has
dropped 20 grams. down to 557.
Although all he seems to want to do right now is sleep I did hand him an iccaco fruit, beach plum in the states.
Surprise, first he didn't want it but changed his mind and at present he is nibbling on it. Will also offer some
very soft wet young coconut meat, the kind babies eat.
Some thing is better than nothing ----- I hope.

Dude 'seems' a bit better this morning.

He got up at his regular time of 5:45am, but he did not eat anything until around 8am.
He didn't eat much but it is better than yesterday. He stayed up most of the early morning
and just now at 9:20am went into his nest box.

We will see how the day goes.

This thread is exactly why I love this Board. All these wonderful, caring humans who try to help animals. It just breaks my heart that Dude is ailing. But kudos to you for trying so hard to help.

I havent been active here for quite a while. Life got in the way, I guess. I started working again, plus my squirrels simply disappeared during a month's time. They just - disappeared. I dont know why. But I miss them terribly. Right now, I think we have maybe 4 regular squirrels - mostly females. Two of them know I hand out nuts, the two others dont.

God Bless all of you for the greatness of your hearts!
