    Default Running Wheels & Balls

My son keeps asking if we can get an exercise/running wheel and even a ball for Emma. Does anyone recommend either of these? I could maybe see a large exercise wheel, but I'm not so sure about the ball.

The balls will hurt their back.

I made a 16" running wheel for my squirrel because I couldn't find a manufactured wheel that I thought was big enough. I have to use the ol' pecan on a string trick to get her to run in it. She has no interest in it otherwise. So I vote no on the running wheel.

Yes, yes, yes. These wheels were a Godsend when I was overwintering 3 little reds.
They actually went though 3 of them.
    I got the stealthwheel.

The reason I had to get 3 of them.

I purchased the Magumn Wheels for Ben, a red squirrel. He is CRAZY for them! I have no idea how many miles he runs in a day but he sleeps until after 9am now! You would think he was training for the Olympics!

I'm SO glad he likes it. I had a feeling Ben would.
Mine went through 3 of them while they were overwintered.
I hope Ben is a little more gentle than my 3 little ones were with them.
You have to take a video.

A little pricey but made of metal. Should work for flyers but probably too small for most adult grays & foxes.

As Nancy in New York said:

They make the Magnum wheel which has a metal track. If they chew the outside it would be easy enough to replace or make.
No balls there toe nails can get stuck in the holes and they are for sure not big enough.
In the glider world some one makes a glider version of a ball but it is tubular they can roll around in. I will see if I can find it and maybe they could make a giant one for a squirrel.

Yes yes squirrels of all ages love wheels. METAL will only work. I have made 5 total and 3 that I personally have used for 1 year no malfunctions. I guess I need to keep selling these. There tail can not get caught no matter how fast they spin and it is great exercise for them. I am sending a pic of my older one that finally needed to be replaced cause they used it too much. Runs off a skate bearing one bolt from oil pan to the bearing that spins wheel. the skate wheel is where I put the long screws thru to attach wheel to cage. Mine is about 15" diameter. Attaching a pic. If you need further help or wish to purchase one let me know.
