Perhaps she'll take some from there. I'll try and give her some again with the dropper later. How long is the formula good for if I leave it in the dish? I can't imagine much more than a couple of hours.

Yeah, I would discard after 2 hours.
Do you have a syringe? We recommend feeding with a syringe and nipple.
With a dropper it's too easy to aspirate them.
And maybe she would like that better.

Oh at 47 grams I would guesstimate that her age is ~ 6 weeks.
BUT she is very tiny for her eyes open.
Were they open when you got her?

    Reds are my absolute favorite.
    Emma is absolutely precious.

    I almost forgot.
Please look at the nutriton chart for the healthy choices to feed your little one.
I do suspect at this age, she should be taking only formula but you can also
    introduce some block as well.
I always get the ones from Henry's for picky eaters.

Here's a link to the healthy diet. Most of us have this printed out and on our refrig.

Her eyes were open when we found her. I apologize if anyone has already provided a link, but where can I buy a syringe with a nipple? I went to Walgreens looking for one, but they didn't have what I saw in the picture(s). Actually, I just Googled and found a few. Can someone provide me a link for a reputable supplier and correct size of nipple?

Oh, I have PLENTY of syringes and mother silicone nipples.
I will be happy to put some in the mail tomorrow.

OR you can purchase them at
    https://www.henryspets.com/miracle-s...ring-syringes/

I only have the silicone nipples now since my miracle nipples had a meltdown.

    Default Thanks to everyone

I want to thank everyone that has provided help, or direction. I will keep you all updated with pictures. Emma hasn't changed much since the last picture, but I'll take more soon. I'll also continue to weight her and keep you all informed (as I will undoubtedly need more help).

    Absolutely no idea.
They look like they were put in the dishwasher
and the heat melted them. You know how they tell
you not to put certain things on the bottom shelves?

I assure you they have never seen a dishwasher.

My thought is that "perhaps" putting them tip down
in HOT water when I feed, may be causing this over time.
I was going to send the pictures to Chris and see if she
has had other complaints. They are all gummy at the tips.

It's crazy, but these are the second set this has happened
with the first was the mini nipples. UGH!

    Sorry for the threadjack.

    Default Chewing on Shell

I apologize as this thread seems to meander off course of the original subject. Emma was climbing around my arm a little while ago and made her way to my fingers. She started chewing on my thumb nail (wasn't biting me, just scratching my thumb nail). My son was in the room and thought he should bring in a hickory nut from outside for Emma to chew on. She took the nut and started chewing on the husk and or nut shell right away. Is it okay for her to be chewing on them?

I looked in the Diet for Pet Squirrels on this forum in the squirrel nutrition section and hickory trees are safe for squirrels, providing they haven’t been sprayed with any insecticides. I would assume that would mean that hickory nuts are also safe. I hope others that know more about this than myself will chime in.

Hickory nuts are perfectly fine for squirrels. They are extremely hard.

    Default Climbing my Leg

Got a good picture of Emma just before she climbed my leg. I work from home, so I'm fortunate I can spend the entire day with her. She can be distracting though. I was on the phone with a client yesterday, and Emma decided to hang upside down from my ball cap and breathe into my ear, LOL. It was difficult to maintain my composure over the phone.

At 47 grams, how much formula should Emma consume, and how many times should I feed her formula a day? Whatever the answer is, I assume that's a minimum? Should I give her as much as she will consume?

Here's the rule of thumb according to their weight in grams.
We typically like to feed between 5-7% of their body weight.
The 5% is the minimum and I would try for 3-4 times daily.
    What formula are you feeding?
Good Luck, and let us know how you make out.

Thank you, Nancy. I'm feeding her the formula you posted at the beginning of this thread. She did not hesitate to take it when the nipples arrived.

I have just seen this post. My guess is that she is probably around 6 weeks old now, she was around 5 when you started posting. Although my only experience is with my current red baby. She was 40 grams at about 3 weeks(mid-August), and she was around 45 grams by week 4 after eating formula steadily. The pictures of your little red look like mine did around 5 weeks judging by weight and tail fluffiness. She opened her eyes at 4- 4 1/2 weeks and her upper teeth were in by 5 weeks old. She was also sitting up and very active with many naps in between at that age. I am by no means an expert, just thought I'd throw in my most recent experience.

Just an update...Emma is taking the formula well. She is so cute, she will stick her head out from her cozy sleeping blanket, take what she wants, then go back to sleep. I'll try and get a picture at next feeding. I'll weigh the formula so I'll have a better idea of what she's taking in. She's been taking about 3 full syringes 3 times a day so far. I'll weigh her again in a couple/few days to see if there's any progress in weight.
