How do you keep your squirrel's teeth sufficiently worn down? Have you ever had to file them?

Squirrels will wear their own teeth down by grinding and chewing on things, unless your squirrel has misaligned teeth that don't meet the way they should, then they would need intervention. Do you have a squirrel with teeth trouble?

Some things that you can supply your squirrel with that will help him keep his teeth in shape...
Hard rat block is one but ask here about them before you buy it. Not all block is created equal . Deer antler -you can find small pieces at the pet stores. Steak bones - not pork or chicken bones because they are too brittle. Rocks - make sure to clean and rinse well before using. I've read that some people use sea shells. Small blocks of untreated wood. Branches and twigs from safe trees - there's a list of safe trees on the nutrition chart.

Thank you for giving me some tips. I never thought about steak bones and rocks. I will be getting some for Ms. Squirt. She will enjoy both of those.

Antlers or T-bone steak bones work good.
Plus it gives them calcium.

I drill a hole through the thickest part, and then screw a steak bone into the wood in each cage,
(otherwise they hide them in the nest)
and I have several on my fence.
They get chewed every day.

No chicken or pork bones.. they turn into shards.

I have had squirrels pass up a walnut to chew on a bone.
