Default baby squirrel in bradenton fl

    Hi All
We just got a 1 to 1 1/2 week old pinkie that survived Irma. He is a little boy and seems to be a fighter. The person we got him from rescued him but did not know what to do and tried to give him cows milk. We have since warmed him up and gave him .2 cc's of pedialyte. There seems to be a little clicking to his chest. Again I've raised squirrels from three weeks old and again must ask for help for one so young. Most everyone probably is over run with these guys now from Irma but if anyone in the Bradenton Fl area that has room for one more I could use the help. I've got 2- 6 week olds at this time plus the many outside friends that I'm trying to care for. If not please give me all the advice you have to care for this one.
    Many Thanks

    Hey Penny's dad,

It's so awesome you too this little one in. No doubt the little guy inhaled some water during the storm. I have baytril to treat him, but Bradenton is a little far for me to trust my car. Any way you could help get him to me?

My email is mel.k.austin@gmail. Email me and I can send you my number if you can't find anyone closer. Hope the little guy makes it!

    Best of luck!!!

Scroll down to post #6 in this thread, there's an email address for someone who can help in Tampa, not sure if that's closer to you.

Baby Jason doing OK although he hasn't pooped since 6pm yesterday. He is on formula now diluted Esbilac .5 to .8 ccs every two hrs. He is on a heating pad and warm. Is it time to think about apple juice at a dose of .5 ccs?
please advise. He is peeing though after we stimulate him just no poop.
    Thanks

Unfortunately we have had problems with esbilac stopping up pinkies this year like the FV 32/40 does. I used esbilac cut 50/50 with goats milk formula. To un block use plain water and don't feed formula till his bowels are moving again.

How much are you diluting the formula?
Remember with the Esbilac powder you need to make it ahead of time, with HOT
water and let it set in the refrig for about 4-6 hours whisking periodically
to make sure it all dissolves.
Some people will put it in ice cube trays and take out what they need the
    night before.
I don't think it's unusual for a little one not to poop too much at first.
Every squirrel that Stosh got took 3-4 days before he saw any poop.
Your little one may not have enough in him right now.
Is his tummy hard, can you see a milk line?
What does this little one weigh?
I would be patient and give it another day or two.

    Hi Nancy
Jason has pooped. The esbilac is being diluted 3.5 to 1 now and made with hot water at least 4 hrs ahead of time. I don't have a weight on him yet. I can't get any pee now from him (?) so I'm not sure what's going on.
His tummy seems to be a bit bloated and hard
    Thanks

    Glad that he pooped.
Can you post a picture of his belly?
Strange that now he isn't peeing.

Today was back to work day from Irma. not a lot of time for much else. He decided to pee for me after his lunch, go figure. I've ordered Fox valley 20/50 for him and the other two that are 6 weeks old. I feel they will thrive better than the esbilac. I've used this before with the 15 we raised to release. With the general approval I will use this on the baby Jason at 1 1/2 weeks old at a three to one ratio. I also used heavy cream and yo baby vanilla yogurt in the mix. He seems to be doing OK even with me concerned so much. I've stated that I don't have the experience with one so young but I'm trying my best to save him. Pics will be coming but just not now.
Thanks to all for the help and advice

We have a member SammysMom who raises hers on Esbilac and FV 20/50 from the get go.
She has had NO problems and she uses full strength with both both formulas.
You will have to wean him off the Esbilac in the following manner.
3/4 Esbilac to 1/4 FV for 2 days.
Then 1/2 Esbilac to 1/2 FV for 2 days.
Then 1/4 Esbilac to 3/4 FV for 2 days.
    Then to all FV
I would start off with a 1:3 ratio of FV to water for about a day, then go to full strength (1:2 ratio), when weaning them off as stated above.
I really never understood why anyone would keep them on diluted formula the whole time.
When using the 20/50 I would not add heavy cream. The 20/50 already has added fat and we don't want diarrhea.
Thank you for taking on this challenge.
I'm sure this isn't what you were expecting, but you rose to the occassion,
and this little one is glad you did............as am I.
