Miney came into the screen porch!! I got her in a small cage. Now....Im torn. The meat of the storm winds are about to arrive- although MUCH less intense than expected before.
I HAVE Miney. I do NOT know.if she's nursing for sure. We heard chirping coming from her nest but I wonder was it HER chirping as she added Leave A. She always chirped when she was worried before.
Nevertheless.... the hard truth is, she can have more babies, but we can't get another Miney.
Keep her in or let her free in CASE she has babies.
Here are the best pics I could get of her belly. They suck. But.. her vulva is extremely swollen and it has been for days now. We thought maybe it was because she had given birth.
Is there another reason to have such a swollen vulva?
Opinions/thoughts please asap!!!
If we keep her inside until tomorrow midday, would any babies she has survive as long as her nest stayed dry and intact?
I could let her go just as soon as the winds died down....
Oh my goodness. I have no idea what to tell you. Do you think she came into the porch looking for shelter?

Did the nipples have the fur matted down around them? That's the only way I could tell if my girl was nursing. When you locked her on the porch..did she go crazy to get off? Unfortunately, she may have lost her babies when the other nest collapsed if she's not going crazy I'd assume the worst sorry...if she's going crazy and the fur is matted around her nipples I'd let her out....but now that it's dark..it's really is too late.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

She wanted out of the cage but not the crazy, digging, chewing her way out kind. The leap around and climb in your face kind.
Brought her in and let her loose in my room (the boys are in a cage here and this is where I kept her when she was sick.)
Again, pacing the windowsill and jumping around. Running across my shoulders and arms, but nothing she hasn't done before when brought in here. She does NOT want to be held. She yelled at me and gave me a warning nip.
She showed interest in being with the boys so I let her in the cage. She tried to go into the bed sack but Grayson got all concerned about his food stashed and started a squabble.
Her belly is soft and smooth, nipples dark but just bumps really.
I'm keeping her in and will let her go tomorrow, because yes, it's dark now.
I'm hoping she came into the porch for shelter. She hasn't come IN before, even for food.

No matter what happens, you came on here looking for help. You tried. There is no easy answer. I hope she is okay and her babies too if there are any!

I think you made the right decision. I know I am glad I brought my guy in. I would have brought in his brother, too, if he had come around. The wind has been incredible and I am heartbroken for my wild friends. I hope they are safe. I am very thankful Peeps is inside with me.

I can't say I would have done any different. I'm glad you can know she's safe now.

Miney went straight to bed as soon as I got her set up properly.
Now to wait out the rest of this storm and go find the abandoned and the orphans tomorrow. Two neighbors' trees have already come down. One had nests for sure.
Goodnight all. Thank you for your support.

I would also have kept her in! You can patrol today and tomorrow for babies and reunite them inside if you come across any out there! Good luck!

If Miney DID have babies, will she take another mother's babies as her own?
If she DIDN'T have babies, will she harm them?
See, I already have four orphans.
One boy, probably 3 1/2 weeks
And three girls, maybe 1 1/2-2 weeks.

Awww poor lil babies...actually, lucky lil babies from your description of her nipples, I wouldn't think she's had the babies. The nipples become prominent after nursing. I would be worried about putting babies in with her....some squirrels are really laid back and don't care...while we've seen Momma's kill their own babies when stressed I wouldn't do it. Thank you for rescuing these lil orphans and Miney as well so glad you all are ok..my sister lives in Gainesville, too.
