Default Hurt leg, 7 week old squirrel

My baby Peanut home was cut down and he took a b8g fall. I believe he already had a little damage to his back left leg. I put in in a bigger cage, which I didn't realize he was still too small, and one night he woke me up crying out. I just thought he got lost in his new cage and got scared. The next day I realized his left back leg was hurt and swollen near the hip. He still moves it, so I don't think it's broke, but how would I know if it's dislocated?

You can see the leg on the right, (his back left leg) is swollen and hard bump. Is this dislocation?

Is your baby able to move the leg? Is the hard lump different from the leg bone?

What formula is your baby being fed? Would you show a picture of the leg taken from the top of his body?

Yes can still move it. he still scratches with it. When he walks he kind of keeps it held up. Will work on picture

The FV 20/50 is perfect. I do not think his leg is dislocated. He would not be able to move it at all if dislocated. It might be broken but I would need to see another picture if possible.

Oops I see you posted the picture. I'll take a look. Thanks

This is one when I first noticed it a week or so ago. Keep in mind in this picture I had just stimulated him with a wet cotton ball and I think it looks a little worse than when he was dry.
I think it looks better than it did a week or so ago

I was also thinking a pulled muscle? Do you think he needs a vet?

Thankyou so much for answering all those questions. It helps sp much!

I can't diagnose his leg but by the way it looks, I think it is suspicious enough to have it looked at by someone. If it is broken those baby bones heal fast.

Are you anywhere near Princeton, Illinois? We have a valued member who can either look at your little man or maybe refer you to a safe vet. The website is 2nd Ranch and Rescue. Phone number 309 738 7480. Email 2ndHRR@gmail.com

Please keep the baby in a small bin so he absolutely can't climb. He looks like he is more like a new six week old. When did he open his eyes?

I have been reading your thread for information. We have been looking for someone to rehab a baby squirrel we found on the ground. She has been eating, peeing and pooping great. We just found her unable to move one of her back legs well. She has been with us for three weeks. Eyes just opened. She does not seem to be in pain as she can squeal if she doesn't like something. Any pictures I can look at to see if there is any similarity? How do I tell if it's a broken leg or a pulled muscle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with redwuff. That leg in the earlier picture looks like it could be broken. But as you said too he does look better in the latest pictures. It is really hard to tell about a break if you can't feel the bone for a break. If you think he is in pain you could give him some infant Ibuprophen/Motrin. It would help with swelling which will lessen any pain. The box will say 50/1.25 ml. If we have a weight I can dose it if you decide you would like to use it.

Hi Do you have a picture you could post? You will get more help if you start your own thread about your baby. Others may not see it here and we could mix up information on the two babies Depending on where you are we have some great members in New England that could help too.

    Thanks for helping this baby.
