So, there is a 5wk old boy.

The finder fed him cow's milk not knowing any better. That lasted for about 24hr.

After the finder brought the baby, the baby was put on pedialyte to re-hydrate and flush the cow's milk.
He pooped on his own his "mom's milk" poops: black and hard.

While waiting for the formula, used goat's milk formula (minus heavy cream for the first couple of feedings). Initially, he took well to it.

After these black and hard poops, his stool began to soften.
At first it looked like diarrhea, even greenish mucousy, but smelled more on a "sweet" side, so was prepared to treat either for coccidia or giardia. Decided to wait for the next poop to smell again and determine whether to start treating for one of those.

But the next time one poop came out fairly solid, while still greyish (maybe, a little greenish?) color and no strong smell. So, assumed that, perhaps, the diarrhea began to straighten itself out.

In a couple of hours before the next hydration there was some mushy diarrhea-like stuff again AND what looked like a big fairly solid and dry (as opposed to wet) poop - picture attached. This solid big poop didn't smell bad, just a regular poop smell. But the mushy stuff had a bit of an off smell, but nothing super nasty.

So, this situation puzzles:
1. Why is there both: a solid poop and some mushy stuff as well? <--- not sure, whether to treat for diarrhea, or continue to hydrate and re-introduce formula?

2. He is difficult to feed. Takes the first 3 ccs or so and then loses interest (and yes, both formula and pedi are very, very warm, almost hot, so it's not like he's rejecting because it's cold).
Initially, he started eating well and took 5%, but wouldn't take more than about 5% - would just stop eating and start moving around. However, he still began to gain weight well.
But now after a few feedings - loses interest after the first 3 ccs or so. And as a result, he lost a few grams.

He is not bloated.

Otherwise, very active (knock on wood) and inquisitive.

So, how to go best about the poop situation? Why is there both solid poops and diarrhea-like mushy stuff?

And how to encourage him to eat? (And what may be the causes for such low interest in food?).

The pic shows only the last solid poop (the mushy stuff was smeared on the blanket nd the blanket being dark, it didn't come out in the pic well).

It may not be clear from the pic, but this poop was solid and dry (as opposed to mushy), when touched it felt like a regular poop consistency. The color in the pic is a bit more intense than it is in real life (as usual with pics). This poop was next to the mushy smeared stuff (there wasn't a lot of it, just a smear).

PS he pees just fine (knock on wood)
