Is the pecan tree enclosed in a cage? Is she going to be released? How old is she now? If she's not ready to be released, I wouldn't let her have access to outside for fear she will stray too far and not come back. She needs to be old enough and equipped with squirrel sensibility before she is free to head to the trees.

We built our release cage around the base of a tree, which might be an option for you.

I'm glad she came back down.

Sorry, it's been very busy! She's around 12 weeks, so still too young for release. The indoor/ outdoor cage is enclosed, but when we're outside with her we leave it open so she can play on the pecan beach jungle gym my husband made her. She's gone back to the pecan tree a couple of times since then, before we could prevent her, but has come back down within an hour. She spends most of her free time outside on/in her cage or on the jungle gym. Her favorite thing inside is to attack our ever present laundry pile.

Our baby Hazel has been gone for almost a week. She's old enough, but we miss her so much! We're worried sick because we haven't seen a trace of her since. We've seen another little girl squirrel nearly every day, but she is smaller and her tail isn't as fluffy as Hazel's. Still setting out the HHB'S, still leaving the indoor/outdoor cage open. This is the 2nd ugly storm since she left. We can't help but be worried about our baby. Tornado watch isn't keeping us from sitting on the back porch and waiting for her to come to safety.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I know exactly what you're feeling! Our two recently released girls have been missing for about a week. To make matters worse one of our boys that was released almost a year ago just decided to not show up for the past 5 days. It stinks to have to worry about them like this, huh?

It super sucks. My husband grew up hunting squirrels! He saw them as pests and garden wreckers. It's been incredible to see the transformation Hazel did in him! We are now squirrel lovers. I bought a new bag of blocks right before she left, so we're setting out a couple each day along with a nut for her or the other little lady who keeps visiting. That's all we can do.

At least we all got the pleasure of raising them into healthy, happy creatures and from what I've read in other's posts, there is a great chance of them coming home again, if only for a visit💖
