    Default Found baby squirrel! HELP!

    Hello!
We found a 4 week old baby squirrel in the house and I was wondering, can baby squirrels find their way back home on their own at 4/5 weeks of age or do we have to see if mom comes around.
We found him in the doorway in our shoes and are thinking maybe he wondered in exploring and took a nap

Well, at 4 weeks, his eyes would still be closed. Can you post a picture of him? Any idea where he could have come from?

When they are found like that they have usually lost mom and need help.

Put some fleece in the bin for the baby to hide under and curl up it. I would put a heating pad on low under half of the bin. The baby needs formula. The recommended formula is powdered Esbilac puppy formula with probiotics and probiotics.

Let me get a link with baby squirrel information.

Looks like a red squirrel? Maybe not as young as it appears because they are so small even as adults. Can you get a face forward picture?

Please be sure that this little one gets some water or pedialyte. It is likely dehydrated. Baby squirrels don't just wonder away to take a nap. He is likely orphaned and desperately needs formula and water. Please be sure to hydrate first before you offer ANY food. After re-hydrating you should start formula at about 1/4 strength for 2 feedings, 1/2 strength formula for 2 feedings, next 3/4 strength formula for another 2 feedings, finally working up to full strength formula.

This baby is too young to survive on it's own. It will need care for a few more months. Thanks for helping him.

    Okay.

I've rehabbed a squirrel before. He fell out of my tree at 2 weeks old and mom left him behind. A vet ended up telling us that he had a serious brain injury and wouldn't be able to survive on his own. So for the next 2 years, we were his happy home until he passed from his injury. Poor twitchy.

Anywho, my friend found this one. And I was wondering if because of his age, could he maybe find his own way home. But thanks to you guys I'm seeing that that isn't likely.
I told my friend to try and find a rehabber and told his girlfriend how to care for it in the meantime. If they can't find a rehabber close to them, I'll be driving 2 hours to go pick him up and bring him home.

What a wonderful offer to go pick him up 2 hours away.
    Thank you for that.
