Exclamation Urgent: need dosing (and possibly suggestions)

    This is urgent.

A baby is found with eggs in his eyes. One eye is already bluish, trying to save the other one.

How to dose the following? :

    1. Capstar 15mg
    2. Baytril 50 mg

    What is the dilution?

I don't know the baby's weight right now, but he is little. I'll try to post the photo and the video. If you could post at least the dilution - thank you.

Also. How often to administer capstar?
Usually it's one dose and it acts within 24 hr or so.
But here the eggs are in the eye - one can see them.
So those who had experience with this - how best to administer capstar to kill them all and save the eye?

Trying to check for you now...
Just spoke with a MR who has dealt with a lot of maggots. She does not suggest putting capstar in the eye.
She says flush with saline or just plain water and pick them off. She said maggots need to breathe and the
saline/water will force them to the surface where you can remove them. Of course she cautioned if the
maggots have gotten to the eye bulb they could be further up in head.

    Thank you all!

But if not flashing with capstar, how to dose it to administer internally?

I have only personally used capstar 11.4 mg with 1/4 of the tab to successfully treat
a young squirrel just by dissolving in enough water to make it liquid.
One whole pill 11.4 mg is only recommended for an animal 2 pounds or greater.
Still searching, wish I could be of more help...

Are they active maggots or fly strike? I see fly strike in the video. Flush the eye with saline. It may take 2 people as you will need to pull the lid away from the eyeball to properly flush and make sure you get them all.

Fly strike will hatch into maggots especially when warmth and fluids are introduced.

To administer orally the MINIMUM dose is 1mg/kg and it will last for only 24 hours. It has a wide safety margin as well. It may be administered once daily if needed.

I do caution you with toxic die off though....depending on how many are already in his system, if they are all killed off they begin to rot and create a toxic atmosphere. But the alternative is not good either...

Using a small fine comb go through ALL of his fur backwards to see if there are more. If you find more (usually at the base of the fur against the body) you may use cornstarch all over his body to create a dry environment and it also makes the fly strike less sticky so you can comb them out.

    Thank you stepnstone and MM!

So to avoid the toxins of the dead maggots, should we give some abs? What kind?

Also this baby is EXTREMELY DEHYDRATED. The blue color or cloudy eye is indicative of severe dehydration. Both maggots and hydration need to be addressed simultaneously.
This is a circumstance that all ways of getting fluid in must be used.
This is a critical baby and seeing this information came in this morning, I know these things have been addressed. Hoping and praying this baby pulls through

    Thank you, Trish.
    Yes those basics are covered.

To update: the baby got capstar, baytril and his eye flashed with saline (or some stuff specifically for human eyes).
    Hopefully he'll pull through.

Thank you all for all your help and suggestions!!!
