    Default Please help--vomiting and listless

My sweet nearly two year old black squirrel Barry vomited this morning (gray/brown thick and seemed mostly like food) and seems to be listless and lethargic. He hasn't grown up since 9am this morning but he just sits in one place in his cage and doesn't move. we recently changed his diet from the fortified katy pellets (which we add coconut oil to) to include more fresh foods like grapes, tomatoes and blueberries. He has drank a little on his own. He will eat food we give him. He just...isn't very active. He will just lay on your shoulder and let you deets him under his chin, open his mouth, all the kinds of "prodding" behavior that he normally would not allow. I HAVE NOT seen him pee or poop all day though. Could there be blockage or a UTI? Should I hightail it to the veg first thing in the morning? Help!

We also recently brought four more babies home. The two older babes have been staying in the same room as Barry. Is he jealous? Did they pass something on to him even though they never interact?

I just want my boy to be okay.

I'm sorry Barry is sick. Let me ask a few questions.
You mention the Kaytee pellets. Are you referring to Kaytee Forti diet for rodents? It is an extruded block... Not the seed, pellet mix, right?

Why, why, why do people post emergencies and then leave the board.
I just sent this member an email telling them we are here.

Yes the blocks not the seed.

I did not mean to leave the board--working from my phone. And having to juggle feeding the other four babies

Just check his anal area to make sure there is no poop impacted.
We have seen that before on the board...and it can cause huge problems.

Is there anything he could have gotten into?
Does he have any stash that needs to be clean out?

Does he have free roam anywhere?

    Look at the healthy diet.
If their diet is not precise it can cause a host of problems,
though I don't think vomiting is one of them.

Have you given him any acorns or anything new to eat recently?

    Diet is KEY.

He does not free roam unsupervised and only in the house and does not spend time outside. There isn't anything near his cage that he could grab and we keep the floors and surfaces clear of any inviting debris (we have two dogs that do a great deal of that cleaning for us haha). I cleaned out his stashes this morning when i noticed his behavior. His vent appears clear.

When I let him out to check he seemed to perk up and even ran around, play teething and tumbling with me.

Hmmmmmmmmmm what's the weather like there?
Believe it or not some squirrels react to the weather if a storm is approaching.
Just throwing some things out there.
He definitely needs a diet change.
You will be glad you did at this farily young age.
They are so susceptible to MBD, a very dibilitating bone disease
    that can sometimes cause death.
    Look at the healthy diet.
Most of us feed Henrys's blocks.
Two a day along with healthy veggies
    is the way to go.
Mine only eat the picky blocks.

One other thing. Make sure he stays hydrated.
Vomitting causes dehydration, and the loss of electrolytes,
so if you have pedialyte give him
    some of that.

We did have a huge storm last night!
Definitely going to focus on changing his diet up. Is it possible that the diet change we just started is causing his stomach to be upset? Or is he mad we cleaned out his cage 😂
I'll look into Henry's--he is very particular about blocks. Kaytees fortified was the first one he would actual eat willingly and not throw or snub.

Before you buy the Henry blocks, send me your address in a pm if you're comfortable.
I will put a few of the HHB picky blocks in the mail and see if your little one likes them.

Edit: I'll get these out tomorrow.
