Today I have had him for one week. I have been feeding him at 5% to 6% body weight. He has put on 13g in a week. He is starting to get a little bit of white hair on his chest, and my goodness, is he enthusiastic about eating.

I went ahead and ordered front Henry's. Syringes, nippers, formula, and some blocks for next month...

I do have one more question I hope you guys won't mind answering. How much powdered formula will I likely use in the time he nurses? I have 12 oz of FV on the way, and about 9 oz of Esbilac left. I will be weaning him to a 50/50 blend. I was going to go ahead and order a 12 oz esbilac from amazon for $13 and free shipping while I still have a prime trial. I just am not sure if I will need it. Thoughts?
You are doing a great job with your little guy. . To answer your question....if it was me, I would go ahead and order the Esbilac. By the time he's ready to wean he could be eating 20ml or more at each feeding. You will definitely go through a lot more formula then. Besides, you can keep any unused powdered formula in the freezer where it will keep longer.

I did go ahead and order it.

We had a couple of issues adjusting to the new syringes and nipples... but Stu seems to be doing really well. He finally is growing white hair on his legs and chest, so I look forward to seeing his eyes open this week.

I have had him two weeks today. I started slowly cutting him off of night time feedings. All was going great... this morning he was so excited about his eating and aspirated again I feel horrible.

    A quick update on Stu!
He is around 6 weeks (I have been caring for him for 3 weeks). He is starting to actually consume HHB now, instead of just shred them. He will knaw at other things, such as greens, nuts, fruit... but won't really dig in yet. He weighs in at 147 grams (when we found him, he weighed 43).
He tolerates me, but isn't exactly what I would call cuddly or friendly... that is all good for me, though, since I want to release him.

He is just adorable!!!!!!!!!!! You're doing a great job! It's very easy to become quite attached to them... As much as I exposed my little girl to as many people as possible it was always "her house" and she never gave permission for anyone to come in and she used to let visitors know that. From what I know and also having one for six years they are very much a one person animal... So just some words of wisdom... They are not too bad when they are young but once they become mature... watch out!! And just be careful around children.. those claws are sharp.. Almost caught my eyes a few times..

Today Stu is getting his first taste of his transition pen. He will be spending the days there and in his indoor cage at night. He has been have a lot of fun running around with all the extra space. He is officially being trained to be wild... and my kids are no longer allowed to pet or hold him. He still is doing just fine, but he did bite my mom so I took that as a solid sign he is getting ready to be more independant.

I gave him a couple of whole nuts on the top levels to see if he would find a way to carry them down to the ground and bury. So far, he is just trying to bury them in the wood haha

His transition pen is about 8 feet long, 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall. It has a shelf on both sides and I put running boards for his to scurry around on.

Well, there are supposed to be pictures in this post, but it keeps giving me an error - you do not have permission, need to log in - even though I can still edit the post so I will keep trying to add them

Not to be a wet blanket, but he looks awfully young to be outdoors yet. How old is he?

Oh definitely too young and alone.
He needs toys, fleece, a squirrel box, and tons
of stuff to occupy his mind, come spring.
There are some dark spots on the walls and wood, could that be mold?
Many times if the cage is outside all year round, it can get moldy, if there's
    untreated wood, or wall board.
Chicken wire is a huge no no. They can easily get their feet and legs
through the wires and break a leg. AND it's too flimsy.
This cat could easily grab this little one if he
    were so inclined.

He needs to be overwintered and loved until spring.

Perhaps we could find someone close by that could do this.

These little singles need more time and love.
"Squirrel Train" him up here, I will GLADLY keep this little one until spring.

How upsetting. I thought I was doing what was best for him. He can stay inside longer.

This one issue has been resolved. Cat now has a dog collar that keeps her in the yard perimeter instead of out by the chicken coop. She still has acres to roam, but not that specific area.

I think that most members, even in Florida overwinter.
You're little one is still way too young, even if it were spring, the bare minimum
age should be 16 weeks, and for singles longer.
Is he off of forumla now?
    What is his diet like.
I've contacted a member who may be able to help.
If we can find a buddy for him, would you be willing to
give him up so he could be released in the spring with another
    little one?
Thank you for taking the suggestions, in the way I intended.
