    Default New baby chippie

    Hi there,
I am caring for a squirrel for about 3 weeks now. I started with esbilac and a syringe. He weened off on his own and Now he's eating solids and he laps up some esbilac on his own. I researched nutrition but I've found some mixed information. What do you suggest I feed him.

Is he a chippie or a squirrel and how old is he. Actually they both get the same formula. What were you feeding?

How old is this squirrel? Please post a picture.
What Esbilac formula did you have him on, was it like pictured below?
If he is ready to be off formula and on solids the first solid food he should be
eating and eating well before others are introduced is a good quality rodent block.

Attaching pictures also of recommended rodent block and link to the healthy diet.

    Correct Formula:

He's a squirrel but I named him chippie
I've had him about 3 weeks. He's grown alot since.
I had found his mother dead in my yard. Don't know how old. His tail is fluffy now he has top and bottom teath. He's refusing the esbilac in the syringe now but will lick out of a bowl. He would love to eat nuts all day but I know that's just a treat. I want to be sure he gets what he needs.

On the site is a pyramid to help guide you on nutrition. A few things to know about greys. At around 9-10 weeks they may get aggressive with anyone other than you. Also, they are food aggressive. I learned these things the hard way. Lol, it's best to not get him out around other people and keep him away from other pets. What are you located? Many states it's illegal to face a squirrel. What are your plans for release? Typically most fall babies are overwintered and released in the spring. Do you have a large cage? This is a great place to learn and the members are a wealth of information! There are several websites to order the rodent blocks. I use Chris's squirrels and more to buy Zuoreem monkey biscuits, which are great. I also order my protein blocks from Henry's pets. A good protein block is essential. Improper diet can result in health problems that often times take months to show symptoms. Welcome to the squirrel board, and Chippir sure is cute!

Can you tell how old he is from the picture. He refused formula yesterday but drank a bunch this morning. I bought the monkey biscuits at pet store but not any specific brand they came from a bulk bin. Do they sell rodent blocks in local pet stores? I am in South Florida is it legal?

My "guesstimate" would be around 7 weeks, definitely still needs to be on formula.
All rodent block are not created equal, squirrels need specific nutrients.
All the rodent block pictured posted can be purchased at most pet supply's with the
exception of the Henry's block that can be ordered here: https://www.henryspets.com/squirrel-diet/
Not sure of Florida laws, believe I've heard they are "legal" but you do need to check on that.

You want to position the heating pad half under what baby is contained in.
When they stop using the "heated side" they no longer need it and you can
    remove it.
