My squirrel is about 4 months old. Today he was fine but around 2 hours ago I found him clinging on the edge of his cage not moving but breathing very heavy. I thought he had gotten to hot so I reach in and grabbed him. He usually resists but this time just went limp.

He is still very limp and only moves when absolutely has to. He won't eat and I think he is peeing blood. There is a lot of blood where he was laying.

He drinks from a water bottle hanging from the side of his cage and he only eats peanuts. This has been his diet for 4 months.

He makes a piping sound when breathing but it doesn't persist all the time.

Did you see bright red blood or dark-colored fluid (which could be concentrated urine)? What made you think your squirrel could have been overheated?

Urine can be dark in color if one is dehydrated. Encourage your squirrel to drink some homemade pedialyte NOW if he could have suffered heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Homemade Pedialyte
1 cup warm water
1/4 tsp salt (teaspoon)
1 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)

If your squirrel survives his illness, his diet must be immediately changed and include rodent block with only a very limited number of nuts. Peanuts have very little nutritional value for squirrels as they aren't a nut, but a legume.

This baby needs help.
Have you given some homemade Pedialyte yet?
Pictures of the baby and the urine would be helpful.
What kind of formula was the baby on?
How long has the baby been with you?

I'm sounding in to agree 100% with the other posters.
Your baby has Metabolic Bone Disease. This is urgent.
Please start the MBD protocol immediately. Your baby needs calcium and hydration.
Has you baby eaten acorns? Acorns cause red urine so it might not be blood.
