Exclamation TAMPA help! Seeking experienced and compassionate rehabilitater

I've had him for a little over a year now. He was handed over to me as a baby and I've taken care of him since. He's not extremely "tame" but he's very close with me. I try less contact often as I understand I cannot keep him. I'mean in a desperate situation, I had options before with his release but they kept coming to a halt due to my friends rl situation. I'm due in a few weeks or sooner to have a baby and I know I can't juggle my squirrel and a newborn or a unorganized release during or before my son's birth. My squirrel has been on Henrys picky eater blocks and plenty of fruits and vegetables (nuts too) his entire life. He's very healthy! I need someone who can take him and release him correctly and will do so with patience and understanding that he's not just another squirrel but one of my children. If you're in the Tampa FL area or close by and can offer your services or assistance please contact me asap. Thank you

Brictom I am going to move your thread to Non Life-Threatening help needed, so it will get more attention. A pic of your little ground squirrel would also go a long way to making this happen.

If I lived closer I'd be willing to help out.

That looks so much like a gray squirrel, it doesn't look like the photos of ground squirrels that I've seen. But I don't know anything about ground squirrels, so I'm not saying it's not one, just a curious note that's all.

Hopefully someone will be able to help.

Yeah, this is a little grey squirrel.

Is this the one that you got back in August?
    How old is he now.
So you are looking for someone to release him or
overwinter him, and have a spring release, correct?
Oh I saw what you feed, please limit the nuts.
I know it's hard, but they really are not good for squirrels in
    captivity.
He can have a tiny bit of fruit daily, but the main diet should be block, veggies,
and salad mix with leafy greens.

Oh, I thought he was grey but I didn't know there was a difference in grey and ground. Ive only done research on how to care for him and not much else! He eats correctly, don't worry. 😄

This is one I got back in 2015, he's a little over a year now. And he's plenty mature.. cough.

But yes, I need him to be released so if that means someone needs to house him for the remainder of fall and winter then I guess that's what I am asking. I'm afraid that's asking for a lot now that I think about it but hopefully somebody here can help so I can focus on my newborn without feeling terrible about my squirrel being in a cage and my kid breathing in my squirrels ammonia.

I have a friend that was going to take him and shes taken other babies that I've raised but she's also got a lot of health problems and has not yet been able to take him. I know this is short notice but I can't wait any longer for my friend to take him as I am desperate with the time.

He means a lot to me so I take very good care of him. I don't feed him tons of nuts or anything of the sort but I do spoil him! 😊

    What city are you in?
If we know your location, we can look for someone
closer that may be able to help you out with your little
    one.

EDIT: I see in your title Tampa.
I will rename the thread to draw more attention
    to the area.

The very best Patti in the world is going to release my 6 buttheads. When I talk to her later this morning I will ask if she or someone else can take on your grey.
