Default License questions and subpermitting in NC (Asheville area)

    Hello squirrel people!

A couple of things have changed with both my husband's and my job situations ...and long story short, we may end up in NC. I am currently sub-permitted in FL by Anne (thanks Anne!) but if we moved, I would like to be sub-permitted again in NC. Are there any rehabbers in the area that could add me to their permit, just temporarily until we can get settled and I can get my own license? Does sub-permitting in NC allow me the same liberties that it does in FL? Could I still rehab in my house? Is there a list of cage requirements listed somewhere? Are non-releasables allowed to be kept? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hope all of you lovely squirrel people and your squees are doing well! I feel like I haven't been on here in forever!

I just looked at the website and it says that non-releasable wildlife should be euthanized? Are you kidding me? Is SC any different? Am I wrong about NC?

From what I gather, that's the rule about a lot of places. One reason I'm not certified here yet

I'm not 100% certain but I think SC doesn't have strict rules at all... at least that's my impression.

SC has no licensing for rehabbing except
the federal one for birds. "pet" squirrels
are legal and so is raising and releasing.
This includes everything but coyotes. I
worked with a group who had the special
licenses for them for a few years until
    they folded.

For NC I know ARC recruits and trains
peeps to help them become licensed
    rehabbers.

I live in SC but my main vets are in NC. They
will see my "pets".....go figure. A few of
my NR's have come from ARC members
    in NC.

I know that it is legal in SC, but unfortunately we have job opportunities in NC. Ugh, I just don't like how it varies so much between states. It seems a little ridiculous to me. Do you see Dr. Dan in NC? Our vet here, Dr. Emerson, said he is a good squirrel vet. Thanks for the info. Maybe we could live in SC and drive to NC?

It is my understanding that obtaining a permit in NC is pretty easy. Actually, I was told by a new rehabber in NC that all she had to do was fill out the application online and submit payment of $7 and then she was permitted. She told me this not quite a year ago. This is for mammals, birds are different cause that brings in the feds.

EDIT: I now see this thread is a few months old. Sorry.

Wow that is easier than I anticipated! I'm may go ahead and do that. I was also told that I can volunteer under a rehabber and thus have guys on my property without issue. I will make sure to explore all options thanks for the help.
