Default Stiff Tail - 5 week old Fox Squirrel

Rescued the little one at 4 weeks. Hes 5.5 weeks now and his tail is very hard and stiff. It doesn't seem to hurt him, doesn't bother him when i touch it or move it. Any idea why this could be?

How does the fur on it look? Sometimes the tail has been damaged and it dies off. It isn't always the whole tail though. How much of the tail is stiff? Can you post a picture of it?

Here is a pic of his tail. What do you think? There is fur on it.

It looks like there is a point toward the base of his tail where the fur is still fluffy and then it gets sort of brittle looking. I suspect that his tail may be sort of dying. Do you have a vet if you should need one for this?
