    Default HELP PLEASE

Just got two baby squirrels and they feel out of a tree a very tall tree and they are 3.75 ounces and 3.80 ounces. I'm at work with only Gatorade and they've eaten 2 ml each ever hour for the last 3 hours and they are very dehydrated. I don't know what do do to make them better nor do I know anyone to help with saving them. I was told I could go to jail for having them but I Can't let them Die! Please Please help tell me what to do or who might want these small babies in North Carolina if anyone know of a Rehabilitation Center for wild Animals, they deserve LIFE!!!!

I just put a call in to one of our best NC rehabbers -- will let you know ASAP if she can help. In the meantime, mix up one cup of VERY warm water with a teaspoon of sugar and give it to them instead of the Gatorade. Gatorade isn't bad for a first hydration but not after that. Stay calm -- we're working on it!

    BABY SQUIRREL CARE:

First thing needed is to warm the squirrel.
Now check for any injuries and/ or wounds.
Hydrate the squirrel right away (use a 1cc syringe) and go slow.
Give homemade pedialyte every hour for eight hours (max 24 hours).
Once hydrated make Goats Milk formula, feed 5-7% of their body weight every 4 hours.

IMPORTANT: Babies must be kept WARM --NEVER feed a cold baby.
    _______

+ Emergency Care for Baby Squirrels +

    1. Warm the squirrel (never feed a cold squirrel)
    2. Place in plastic container or box w/ pieces of fleece
    3. Rehydrate the squirrel (feed pedialyte first 24 hours)

    Homemade Pedialyte
    1 cup warm water
    1/4 tsp salt (teaspoon)
    1 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)

    4. Slowly feed with a 1cc syringe - head UP tail DOWN
    5. Keep warm at all time - fill bottle with hot water (cover bottle with sock)
    __________
Please stop using the gatorade. Do you have a heating pad? If not, for now, you can make rice buddies, by pouring rice into a sock, tying end off and microwave for a minute, take out, move rice around to make sure there are no hot spots, put back in for 30 seconds, and then move rice around again. Use fleece or old tshirts (never towels or anything with loops). You will have to reheat the socks often, but will stay warmer longer then the towels. Do not give anything until they are warm. They also have to be stimulated to go potty, as well. Take a tissue or a cotton ball, and quickly and gently flick them on their private parts. Using white tissue makes it easiest to see if they are peeing. If it is very yellow, they are extremely dehyrated. Continue to give the homemade pedialyte until pee is pretty clear. But not more then 24 hours.

Good News! Sissy will be here in about 30 mins.
I caught her on her way home in NC but she is already thinking of two rehabbers in your area who can help. Hang in there, Nature Lover -- help is on the way and keep checking your thread. I am merging this thread into your Emergency thread, right now.

Working on the sock buddy now. Then I'll do the tissue next.

With the fluids, you can try every hour to hour and a half and then see how their urine output is.

The next food is Esbilac (powder), with pre and probiotics, and eventually that is mixed 50/50 with Fox Valley 20/50 formula. You can get the Esbilac at Petco, the Fox Valley, you would need to order online: http://www.foxvalleynutrition.com/pr.../day-one-2050/

I would try to get her to a rehabber, if possible.

I am very sorry about the loss of the little boy...RIP.

    Thanks
    What about the goat milk?
Walmart is All that we have here in town.
Tuesday I am off and could go by a pet store or vet.
I called the rescue and they are out of reach until the middle of the week and I have to drive her there. They can't come pick her up. Plus they told me cat formula and from what I've learned that isn't good for her so I'm confused if that girl is knowledgable enough.

Any thought on Goats Milk and the cats formula?
And do I keep the heating sock warm from now on?
Plus one more do I keep making her pee and poop?
She looks better and is drinking 2 ml per hour and half now up from 1 ml.
Thanks I'm listening to your advise and she's improving.

    TEMPORARY GOAT'S MILK FORMULA:

    3 parts goat’s milk
    1 part heavy whipping cream*
    1 part vanilla yogurt

Formula will last 48 hours in refrigerator.

    Goat’s Milk
This can be purchased at natural food stores such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, and at most health food stores that sell groceries. It is a product for humans. Do not substitute commercial formula made for baby goats or other livestock sold at feed stores.

Goat’s milk is available fresh in a carton; evaporated in a can; and as a powdered milk. If you purchase either the evaporated or powdered versions, please blend them with water according to the package directions before using to make the formula.

    Heavy Whipping Cream
This is found in small cartons in the grocery store near the coffee creamers and half and half. Regular heavy cream may be substituted if it is unavailable, but the heavy whipping cream has the highest fat content, and is preferred.

    Yogurt
Yogurt has beneficial bacteria in it that soothes and settles digestion. Full fat yogurt is best, and a good choice that is very widely available is Stoneyfield Yobaby yogurt. However if it is unavailable, a low fat vanilla yogurt may be substituted. Avoid those that have artificial sweeteners in them. Vanilla and banana are both popular flavors, and the sweet taste of the yogurt helps to convince the baby to accept it.

It has been recently discovered that very small pinky squirrels do better with the ESBILAC PUPPY FORMULA, with probiotics, instead of Fox Valley. If the Goat's Milk formula is used, omit the heavy whipping cream for the first two weeks of life.

I Bushy has eaten 1 tbs at 11:00 am and after she got full went back to sleep. This makes day 2 and she is starting to suck and is very alert.

Does anyone know when her eyes might open?
How often should she poop and pee?

    Thanks from both of us!

    P.S.
She loves Goat Milk, Yogurt, and Heavy Cream
