WOW this is terribly sad Gayle. The thoughts of her trying to chew off her leg.
I too am glad she is free and I am praying big time that she makes it back to the trees.
She is loved and cared for, but we want more.

One thing to consider is that if she is oily her fur can't insulate her against cold. Perhaps a heating pad until the oil is all off would be good. Poor little critter

This whole thing just fills me with admiration for our SM and rage against the human race. (Which of course I already have most of the time so there you go......) If I had the time I would start lobbying whoever the powers that be are who could make these hideous devices illegal. Here in the Bronx, local exterminators actually provide them as part of their "service" -- then come back a WEEK LATER to clear out the corpses. (Meanwhile the hideous things are $2.50 at Home Depot but the exterminator charges upwards of $100 for his 'expertise'.) hatepeople.....

I just read the bit about her trying to chew her foot up. That is heartbreaking :'( I really hope that she makes it...she has already shown she is a fighter! The tough cases always remind me why I rehab. Thank goodneas you got her. She has no idea how lucky she is that the man brought her to you. If anyone can save her, you can.

Oh I am fairly sure that there is some serious plotting for revenge on ME going on in that greasy little noggin...
I did just wash her tail only in the bathroom sink with Dawn. Let's see how that turns out when it dries...
She is very happy to take formula and I am quite certain that she ate a block.

Yay! That is one messy job! I always warm the oil, helps melt the glue. Its stressful on both ends, I know! Rescue Remedy is helpful. I will call you for my next squirrel pine sap tail tangle!

Just fed Slick and when I returned her to her cage she burrowed as usual. Five minutes later, I looked up to see her climbing all over the cage! This was a first and I think it was a huge step in the right direction!

If I want to use Dawn, but don't want to submerge Slick, can I use a cloth and toothbrush with a bowl of Dawn water and accomplish anything or am I wasting my time to try this?

Are you trying to get the glue off or the oil?

Both, but the Dawn is mainly for the oil. I sort of want to start with as little on her as possible and assess the damage

The Dawn has a ton of sufactants so it will work...slowly. Make absolutely sure you get all the Dawn off though. People think it is non-toxic but it most certainly is NOT and you don't want them to ingest any.

If you could just reduce it by about 50%, she will get it groomed out eventually. My cockatiel decided to wade in and bathe in a bowl of melted butter (for lobster) once. It took him about a month to look normal, but it DID all go away finally.
