    Default Help with incubator temperature

I just got my first baby of the season in and I'm using my new Petiatric Incubator. Does anyone know the correct temperature for baby squirrels?

At that age I would think around 80-85*, but i use a heating pad not an incubator. Hopefully someone else will have a more accurate response.

TJ - I am going to contact a very good client of mine that has numerous Petiatric Incubators and has been using them for years. I'll share the info just as soon as I get it. I have a feeling this question is going to come up a lot this year.

Check back on this thread in a bit, okay?!!

EDIT: I just sent off an email. If I don't hear back in a couple hours I'll call her. She's got several babies already so she may be kinda busy, but she will get back to me.

    OK! Got info for you!!!

This information came from Marcia at Coast & Canyon Wildlife. She has 16 Petiatric incubators and has been using them for years. Her recommendations are as follows:

Pinkies to approx. 3 weeks old: 90-93*F

3 weeks till done with incubator: 86-88*F

    Injured/Sick adults: 80-83*F

The one thing that she stressed (and she said it like 8 times)

TOUCH AND FEEL THE BABIES WITH YOUR HANDS. IF THEY FEEL COOL, INCREASE THE TEMP, IF THEY FEEL HOT, LOWER THE TEMP.

She also said if the babies are sick she may increase the temp by a degree or two if they seem to feel cool.

    Hope this helps!!!
