Nutmeg ripped off his nail on his back left foot! He must have gotten it got in a piece of wood. The nail looks to be completely gone. What do we do now? Will the nail come back? Do we need antibiotics?

It happens. Take a deep breath, clean it up and get a weight for a dosing of INFANT ibuprofen.
It won't come back, but he will heal and be fine. NO peroxide.
I feel like I'm going to cry! I don't have a scale that can appropriately weight him. Can I add a picture and have someone help? S.O. is headed to the store now for infant ibuprofin.
I cannot find the nail that is gone, what if it wasn't a clean ripping out?
Don't worry he will be fine! Send me a pic. Text or email or can you post it here?
How is he acting?
Can you send me your email? I'm not on my computer so I cannot resize the picture. He didnt make a sound when it happened which is why we don't know how it happened. Blood all over the place. He was shaking his foot a lot and when we put him in his cage he ran straight to bed with his brother and hasn't come out since. I can tell he is in pain. =/
I really appreciate your help!
Squirrels will run when something like this happens, and I'm not sure why.
They like to be in a closed in space too when they are hurt. He is probably just
trying to take it all in himself, and perhaps even licking it to clean.
He may get nippy if you try to dose him or reach in, so just be careful.
We just had a member whose squirrel needed two toes amputated because she
caught them in sofa fringe I believe and really injured them badly. The vet did an emergency
operation on Sunday, and her little one is doing excellent.
thank you.. I'm sure I'm overreacting a bit I just feel so awful for him. I can't stand to see him hurting. We are planning on taking his brother and putting him in the smaller cage until we get Nutmeg out. Ginger gets pretty protective over his brother.. I think its sweet. They love each other more than anything.
I can see ginger in there cleaning his foot up, I'm keeping an eye making sure he's not "grooming" the area too much.
surprisingly, Nutmeg has NEVER bitten.. not even in play. He's a sweet boy. Though I'm sure being in pain will make him a little more nippy so I'll make sure to wear gloves.
thank you so much! I'm so lucky to have found this place!
When it's our little ones we just panic. We hate to see them in pain, that's just being a good Mom.
So you're not over reacting at all.
How special that Ginge gets protective over Nutmeg..........that's really touching.
The ibuprophen will help with the pain and discomfort. And it can be dosed ever 4 hours as needed too.
Peroxide can damage healthy tissue and has been known to cause issues with wounds on other squirrels. A VERY mild betadine solution in water is a good flushing solution.
Just waiting for it to come through...
Can you check the email address and just be sure it's correct? I didn't get it yet.
