State how much antibiotic you've given and what instructions you're following. Too much can cause internal injury. He may need to be flushed with fluids.

Did you crush it and mix with water?
Dosing is done by weight of the squirrel and the concentration of the drug.

No, I would not wake him every 1/2 hour for formula. I probably would give extra hydration every 2-3 hours.

Grinding his teeth is a sign of pain.
Gently move his arms & legs to see if he flinches from anything, as if he sprained it.....
Gently massage his belly to see if he reacts in a way that would signal abdominal pain...

Not really. It can be an indication of pain. Sometimes though they do make mouth/teeth/grunting sounds that are completely normal.

Does he appear to be in pain or is he resting comfortably?

I think we should dose the Bactrim properly. Do you have another pill or is it a liquid?

Could you post a picture of him?

i checked him over by moving body parts and gently pushing around on his belly. He did not act like anything was wrong. He did not flinch or anything. He just wanted to curl back up and go to bed

That dosing is correct!!
The loading dose was also a good idea.

I would not continue for 14 days. 5-7 days should be adequate for a bacterial infection.
14 days is used for coccidia (a parasite).

Your dose is correct but just as a FYI, according to the book (Wild Baby Mammals) that we use for
dosing, the correct dose for squirrels (for Bactrim) is 25mg/kg. I suspect you already knew that.

I will post a picture. But everybody in my house is currently asleep and i do not know how to do transferring of pictures. but somebody should be awake here shortly. he is sleeping comfortably. When he wakes up he acts like he is starving. He just did that when I checked him. But went right back to sleep when i wrapped him up in his blanket

I do not have liquid antibiotic. It was a tablet. I split the 800mg to make 2 400mgs. then i just disolved it in hot water

yes! eric is state licensed in the state of ohio and he has been such a great help. i have kept VERY close contact with him. if i ever needed a question answered or anything he has always told me what to do. he told me that he would be back home today. he wanted me to jump on here and ask questions. just in case he did not think of everything.

Please do not miss any doses, if you are instructed to continue with it.

Also, good that you stopped the tums and banana. Too much calcium or potassium can lead to critical situations.

You're doing a great job Jaime!
The baby is on antibiotics, he is resting comfortably and his appetite is good so ALL of these are great news.

Here is a link that shows proper feeding technique. You want the head up so that formula does not go into the lungs. Don't feed him on his back like a human baby. Does your baby have a name.

Are you talking about the Bactrim here in this post?
If so this is INCORRECT.

First never split a pill.
If you have another Bactrim, crush the WHOLE pill and add 16 mls of water to it.

Always give a probiotic 2 hours prior or 2 hours after giving any antibiotic.

ALSO could someone have handled your little squirrel and dropped it?
This to me sounds like he has taken some sort of a fall. You suggested too
that he was trying to bite, which is indicative of pain. Do you have infant ibuprophen?
Is his tail dragging, or is he able to hold it up?

That is exactly what I was going to ask. I am very near you also if you need anything but if you have Eric you have far more than I could offer as I am a newbie. I have cipro, ( fishflox) if you need it.

How long have you had this little one?
Sounds like you have not had him too terribly long.

I am assuming that he is 7-10 percent dehydrate if his skin is tenting that long. I would try to make sure he gets at least 9 ml of extra water or a home made re hydration solution via mouth if he can take it ( in the 24 hour )

You said BOTTLE.. in one of the first posts...is baby eating off a bottle or syringe? If you have answered this then just disregard.. I am not done reading all the posts yet.

Are you feeding him the powdered Puppy Esbilac with probiotics? Are you dissolving it 1 part Esbilac to 2 parts hot water?

i will call around and see if anybody has cipro or amoxicillian. He has more energy but still weak. He is able to get around on the floor now and climb up and down my body (like a tree). I have been giving the sugar water to him when he licks at my hand. Just about .2 mL. Then I offer water too. He is doing better. Thank you everybody!!!....
