Vomiting

Hi I was the proud mom of two baby red squirrels, but sadly just an hour ago my Rosie passed away, and now her brother is throwing up! I had noticed that Rosie had spit up twice after feedings but assumed she had just taken a little to much formula, as otherwise she was perfect. Active friendly good poops. But this evening when I went to feed her and her brother, Rosie was floppy and had vomit around her mouth, I tried to get her to take some water from an eyedropper but it just trickled back out and within minutes of my holding her she died. As soon as Rosie died I took her brother but him in a clean box and then sanitized their aquarium, I threw out the old hide all the aspen bedding and boiled his water bottle, Just now though when I went to give him his formula he took a couple drops then puked up what seemed to be at least a tablespoon of fluid, including chunky white stuff that looked like runny cottage cheese. I am in a complete panic and am hoping someone can over some advise.

When I found him he was cold and curled up tight, he was very dehydrated and a later trip to the vet revealed a broken hind leg. After 24 hrs. of supplemental heat and pediatlyte he perked right up. I didn't have access to goats milk right away so on my mother's advise I started on can milk mixed half and half with water and he seemed to love it, I have since switched to the Goats milk Formula and rodent blocks. He is 64 grams and apparently 8 wks. old so I know he's under weight, yesterday on the advise of another member I gave a little avocado which he also loved but this evening when I went to give dinner his sister was dying and now he is throwing up. I desperately need help.

Did they ingest any of the pit or skin of the avocado?

Think hard sweetie. What else have they eaten? Have they been gnawing anything?? Think of EVERYTHING and list it for us please!

They may have had a little parsley, I printed henry's healthy foods and put it next to there cage so my mom wouldn't accidently feed them anything bad and I know we had parsley in the house and we don't now. I wish I could get a hold of her to ask. I did just start adding the cream to his formula could that cause this?

Could they have stashed something that went rancid and was eaten? What type bedding did you say you are using? Nothing that is wood chip sort of stuff. Just the shredded paper sort of unscented bedding for their very sensitive sinuses.

I 've been using aspen chips, it's what my vet recommended, and no nothing that could have gone rancid.

I would try using fleece and tee shirts myself. Sort of start over and be sure it isn't the wood chips. I am always afraid that they are treated with chemicals.

That may be respiratory distress. Please try taking him out of that bedding if possible and into some nice clean fleece or tee shirts. Praying that he is okay...

All right I have him switched onto an old cotton bed sheet. ( I ran out of spare T-shirts and I tossed my only piece of fleece, pretty much any thing his sister came in contact with either got boiled or binned.) I was thinking maybe some warmed pedialyte?

No only one actually lives with me an she has been banished from the squirrel room. I read that there breath could be poisonous from all the bacteria, I've also been washing my hands and arms with anti-bac soap religiously.

Definitely pedialyte! Vomiting is extremely dehydrating.

Just tried him with some warm pedialyte with an eye dropper. He threw it right back up. All he seems to want to do is cuddle his Hot Sock. will check again in a couple hours. Wish me luck.

Have you tried putting some molasses on her gums? The sugar and minerals can help. If you don;t have molasses, try another syrup, even pancake.

Could the goats milk have gone bad? It only lasts for a very short time in the fridge, which is why we suggest dividing the GM into a bunch of small containers and freezing them so you are always using FRESH to make up the formula...

No I haven't tried molasses, I will as soon as things start opening up around here. And it's the canned variety of goats milk I just mix up enough for the day then toss any leftovers. He isn't doing well though

Ok, the Goat's milk, even canned can only be used for 72 hours after it is opened from my understanding. How long has it been open?!?

It's a new can maybe 24hrs today. after the 72hr mark if there's any left we just use it for tea.

He is making a little clicking noise this morning, and he keeps crawling off to the coolest part of his enclosure.
