    Default FLUSHING NY help needed!

My daughter found a baby squirrel two days ago. We live in Flushing. I have tried to find someone who can care for him locally but the only one I was able to get a number for is not calling back. I just want him to be cared for properly. Any help in finding someone would be greatly appreciated. I would not object to rehabbing him myself, but since I have no idea how to do that, I am seeking help. Thank you.

Thank you. He is very sweet and appears to be healthy and about 5 weeks old from what I've read. Sleeps a lot. I have been feeding him the esbilac puppy formula since last night.

Well for now that's ok, not our choice, as they have recently had problems with the Esbilac. If we don't find help, you may want to switch him over to the Goat's Milk recipe.

You have him on low heat right?

    Does he have any wounds?

I am running out for about an hour, but I'm sure this thread will get attention, and I pm'd 3 members that may be able to help you.

Thank you so much for helping this little one!

One of our senior members who posts as Jackie in Tampa uses an excellent temporary substitute, and it can be assembled from locally purchased ingredients:

    3 parts goat’s milk
    1 part heavy whipping cream*
    1 part vanilla yogurt

Formula will last 48 hours in refrigerator.

He has one tiny mark on his leg that has a scab on it. A sibling was next to him but already dead. Maybe from the fall. He does not appear to have been dehydrated at all and has been going to the bathroom regularly. And I do have him in a box on top of a towel with a heating pad on low under that.

    Great that you found us.
I might suggest that you swap out the towel with something like an old tee-shirt.
Towels/terry-cloth, have loops that can entangle their toes.
If you're short on time, the Esbilac will not cause immediate harm, and you can still use it.
We do recommend the goats-milk formula or Fox Valley.
You're going to be the better judge as to the time, so get back when you can.

Just wanted to let you know that your little squirrel friend is doing really great. He was 85grams then.
    Now he is 440 grams!
He also has 3 squirrels his age to play with.
They just came in recently and he is getting acquainted.
    Two other boys and girl.
It is too cold this winter.
I will be releasing them in the late spring when it is warmer.

He is not in a cage. He is in a large room with lots of tree parts, branches, changing activities and I spend time with them every day.

Congratulations on caring enough to help him. He is just learning to crack nuts and do squirrel things. He would not have made it without you!

The group will be released together.
