I have issues with my last purchase and my newest squirrels and bunnies.
It DOES NOT dissolve. I tried very hot water and even let it run a long time in the processor/blender and of course letting it sit over night. Using filtered water helps a little. The blending helps, but there is still a sludge at the bottom when I get it out for the next feeding. By the time it gets mostly dissolved, it's time to make fresh. I also started mixing it 50/50 and it's a noticeable difference.

I just knew she wasn't sick, no real indication. It had to be the formula
and it obviously was. It really surprised me with how fast her poo's
started to turn around after just one feeding.

Thumbs up Re: FOX VALLEY & PINKIES: Discussion Thread

I am thankful to be able to update this thread with a success story with at least one batch of 32/40 - yes!

Last fall I had 17 squees come through my doors. I started out with FV 32/40 from my summer kids and used up the pack and reordered for the fall kids. No one died, but every single kid under 4 weeks had RAGING poops. I truly thought that I would lose a few of them, they got so bad. I switched them to 20/50 with some added fat sources and they did well and the poops cleared up.

A few weeks ago I got in pinkie brothers that were 14 and 15g, respectively. I only had 20/50 in the freezer, and my rehabber gave me 2 cans of GME. Being wary of putting them on the 32/40 I decided to try the GME. They had slimy poops - not diarrhea, but mucousy. I had to change their bedding more often because you could see they were smearing it everywhere. One of the little guys bloated up and had awful gas. They were gaining, but *barely*. My rehabber gave me some new packs of 32/40 FV and I brought it home, crossing my fingers.

EXCELLENT NEWS: it's perfect. My guys went right over to the normal FV poops - nice yellow, curdy and not messy, regular. No more gas, no more bloat, and no more mucous. I'll update with the batch number when I get back home. SO thrilled that even though they were under 20g, the 32/40 has worked well for them. Whew!

So glad to hear that yours babies are doing well! I too was happy with both 32/40 and 20/50 although I have mixed 2/3 FV with 1/3 regular powdered esbilac puppy with probiotics. I have had beautiful chubby healthy babies!

Hi All - I'm not on here much but I wanted to relay some information about the issues we are all having with formula and pinkies and bloating........

On the 15th of this month I receive a VERY bruised 16 gram gray pinkie. She was knocked out of her nest and fell on asphalt. Very badly bruised but very alert and responsive, took her in and did all the usual......subcue fluids, Metacam, Traumeel, so on and so forth. Ramped her up on plain Esbilac (new formulation) and was doing great until Saturday and I noticed the lump of formula in her tummy. I do NOT think this is because of the Esbilac, I think it is because she was so compromised up on intake but none the less her tummy was huge and I had to get moving. I don't know if this will work for everybody but it worked for me and she is alive today and a chunky 24 grams! I also kept an eye out just waiting for this to happen!

This is what I tried -

Mixed 3 digestive enzyme capsules in a teaspoon of water, gave 0.02 cc's every 4 hours for 2 days (Digest Spectrum)
Gave 0.01 cc of Maalox 2 x's a day for 1 day *** This is VERY dehydrating so you HAVE to make sure you are keeping these guys hydrated or they will die***
Subcue Lactated ringers 5% of body weight every 4 hours for two day
"Lactaid, chewable tablets" in a half tsp of water and gave 0.02 cc's every 4 hours

It was late on Sunday before any poo started to pass and it was a TINY but the bloating was down and the lump seemed to be smaller.

On Monday, I gave a 25% formula (Goats Milk) mixed with Goat Colustrum and alternated adding Lactaid. It was a pain to get it in her as Delilah HATED the goats milk but I had to get something in her since now the lump was gone and she now looked skeletal.
After we got her up to 100% goats milk for 1 full day I then mixed -
    3 parts Goats milk
    1 part Esbilac
    1 part Heavy Whipping Cream
    1 part full fat yogurt

I have not tried this on any other little ones and I have no idea if this concoction will work on a regular basis but it pulled this kid through. She was heading down hill and I figured I would throw the book at her if she was going to die.

I think the different enzymes (digestive, Lactaid, Goats Milk) helped break down the coagulated lump of milk in the stomach. I think the Maalox helped the intestines clear out anything that was sitting in them. I think the colostrum helped her immature digestive tract.

This is all my supposition and "thinkin" but I am throwing it out there in case anybody needs help and wants to try.

Thanks for sharing You definitely threw everything at her (and the kitchen sink) this little girl pulled through. ....so I'd say if you're losing one it's worth the try unfortunately we all don't have the benefit of being able to give fluids subcutaneously is there any of this protocol that we could still use with only oral hydration?

Shewhosweptforest - I would think fresh Pedialyte would work or even if you can give the ringers by mouth would work. Just as long as you keep them well hydrated while on the Maalox.

And my dosages were guesstimates since I have nothing to base this on except she was tiny, 16 grams.

I STUPIDLY, STUPIDLY STUPIDLY started Little Susi, a 10-day old pinky, on half FV/half Esbilac two days ago because that's what her older brother 'Berto is on. She is completely constipated and started to bloat last night but I was able to keep it under control with constant massaging and warm water soaks.....she is now in danger of either starving or dehydrating to death because if I give her more than half a cc of anything she bloats again. I KNOW it is the FV 32/40, because this is what happened to so many of our pinkies last year.

I WAS STUPID. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!! I will not give FV 32/40 to ANYTHING under three weeks old ever again.
