First, the baby needs to be warmed up. Put him in a little box - a sterlite plastic storage box with airholes is good - with torn up t-shirts in it and set it on a heating pad on low. When he is COMPLETELY warm, HEAT your pedialyte. It needs to be about 102-105 degrees. You don't need a nipple for the syringe for now. When he is warm, try again with the warmed pedialyte. If all you can do is put a few drops in his mouth, do that, wait a few minutes, do it again, and so on.

When everyone wakes up we may have people near you who can help. I put up a post with your location to help drive some of them to this post.

I have him in a cage on top of the heating pad.
He seems to be sleeping, though his eyes arent open.
I have given him a few drops and he will swallow then he will not drink anynore until about 30minutes later he'llsound as if he cries and i offer more to him he drink then pushea it away and goes to sleep and so on.
I made his a sock buddy which i find he loves it, helps him get more comfy.

What do i use to doctor the cut on his lip?

Ive raised many squirrels in my lifetime, but none had this cut on the lip. Im not sure what to use.

We will need to see a pic to see just how bad it is. For now I would just clean it up and concentrate on rehydrating him - that is the life threatening issue. BTW, do NOT take no for an answer from a pinky. I would wrap him AND his sock buddy up in a little burrito of fleece so he stays nice and warm while you do, and would drop by drop that liquid into him. Hint: Since he is not dehydrated from being ill - vomiting or diarrhea, try making a different rehydration solution - just sugar water - 1 teaspoon of sugar in a cup of water. He may like it better than the salty tasting pedialyte and he really doesn't NEED the salt.

    Ive done the skin test.
The tent isnt as bad as it was, its going back to normal faster.
I have them wrapped up, and i take him out to feed him.
I just made the salt, suger, water formul . And he seens to really like it. He drink 1cc of it.
    I cleaned the cut.

Hes very precious. And very active while hes awake.

As a new member you don't have rights to attach photos yet - admin probably is feeding her pile of pinkies and hasn't done the morning board chores yet. Glad he likes this stuff - keep hydrating him and he will want his formula. What formula are you using - please don't say esbilac...we can help you if you are.

Homemade pedialyte is recommended because storebought has some extra surprises that humans can process but is hard on tiny squirrel organs

here is a recipe for homemade Pedialyte:

    1 tsp salt (teaspoon)
    3 Tbsp sugar (tablespoon)
    1 quart warm water
Mix all ingredients in warm water. Store in refrigerator.

Don't give w/ salt for more than 24 hours. After that, same recipe, remove the salt...

Because it's a pinkis there any recommnded changes to recipe above???

    Temporary Goat's Milk Formula:
3 parts goat’s milk (if canned - dilute)
    1 part heavy whipping cream*
    1 part vanilla yogurt

Formula will last 48 hours in refrigerator.
*It is recommended that when just starting to feed a new baby that the first feedings be made without the heavy whipping cream. This will give their digestive systems a chance to acclimate from mama’s milk to our substitute without the harder-to-digest whipping cream. Once they accept the formula and are eliminating properly, the whipping cream can be gradually added in.

When your Fox Valley formula arrives, please transition your babies to the new formula slowly, by blending the Goat’s Milk Formula with the blended and liquefied Fox Valley formula, increasing the ratio of Fox Valley with each feeding until you are no longer using the goat’s milk.

(Separate the rest of your goat's milkk contain in 1-cup portions in ziploc bags and freeze.... it doesn't last as long as cow's milk)

Someone can send you the Henry's Pet Supply link to order fox valley... you'll also be able to get nipples from there.

As for the cut... it's tricky because it;s on his lip. I believe polysporing is low risk if swallowed... i would think gently babbing a little bit would be ok.

    Any thoguhts anyone??????

hi chybear -- Starfish has given you excellent advice so far. You'll want to order the following from www.henryspets.com:

1 lb bag Fox Valley 32/40 formula powder
1 lb bag Fox Valley Ultra Boost
1 packet silcone mothering tip nipples
several high quality (Basik or Sklar) 1cc syringes

I would leave the whipping cream out of the goats milk mixture for now -- too rich for pinkies. Keep him warm, check him often, and you're good to go, but if you'd like us to find someone near you to take him we can certainly help with that!

Keep hydrating. Never take NO for an answer from a baby squirrel . Don't drown him, but do keep hydrating even if it's a few drops every half hour or so. It takes a day or two to get a dehydrated pink back on track, and it's exhausting but so worth it when they turn into little pink piglets!

Ha ha; well they don't do much at that age. You've essentially just gotten home from the hospital with your newborn. It's asleep in the carseat, you put the carseat on the table, look at the baby and wonder 'now what do I do?'. Well, not a whole lot at first. :-)

Have you done the pich test (skin tenting) for dehydration?

If dehydrated, try to rehydrate (pedialyte formula) every 30 minutes.
